North Florida post game thread
I am listening to the North Florida broadcast, since I cannot get 103.7. Their announcer did a pretty good job.

Only three turnovers in the first half, but we need that, because we are getting killed on the boards.

Stetson apparently is the heir apparent to Isler.
White is not going to help us much if he cannot stay in the game.
Typical solid game by Leeper.
Pretty fair outing for Isom in his first college game.
Five players in double figures.

Did a lot of things well. Just couldn't rebound. Gus probably need to play more minutes.

RE: North Florida post game thread
I thought the Trojans played well with the exception of rebounding. Isler did a great job on their leading scorer. And to give some credit to Billings when Leroy wasn't in the game. Gus played very well and should have played more in my opinion. He and Will should be in the game at the same time as much as possible. That would allow Will to play the wing spot offensively. Rebounding is a big question mark at this point. We didn't shoot well at all in the second half. We did shoot free throws well tonight, and that kept us in the game. We took good care of the ball tonight. I didn't think we had many turnovers, but I never did hear how many we had. North Florida is a pretty darn good team. I thought we played pretty good for the first game.

Ray said we had 7 turnovers, and I think a couple of those were pretty late in the game. Our 2 points guard really ran the offense well and controlled the tempo. Looks like JT is the #1 point guard, but you have to love Devonte's quickness. Both will play plenty of minutes.

The good

Gus has game

Leroy played well

I like the 2 pg’s in the game at the same time

Defense rotated and played well, imo

Fouls we low

The Bad

Rebounding

All in all I felt we played well and better than I expected.

Didn't realize until I read BTH this morning that Will had reinjured his shoulder this weekend in practice and was playing with a brace.

RE: North Florida post game thread
I did not see the game and was disappointed that we lost a winnable game, but at least there were some positives:

1. Hagins can play the 2 (even though he did not his his 3's last night and is short for defense).
2. Gus is back!
3. Isler does have some offense.
4. Thomas 4 assists against 0 turnovers.
5. Isom can indeed shoot the 3.
6. We can shoot FTs, and this year in particular that is important.

And all of those are significant for the long run.

Will ended up with 12 points, but I got the impression that he just was not a factor much of the time. If we keep our turnover level that low, good things will happen.

Questions for those who were there.
How was the crowd?

The down side:
1. If White cannot keep from fouling, he is of no use to us at all.
2. Will is going to have to be more productive if he is going to play 30 minutes a game.
3. Isler has to play more than 16 minutes, because Stetson is still a zero force offensively.
4. Our defense did not sound very good.

Stetson will be a player for us eventually, but right now his offense is so limited that we cannot afford to have him out there except as a filler for Isler. 10-15 minutes per game max. 21 is too many.

Good field, no hit they would say if he were a baseball player.

Shields still uses too deep a rotation, but I did notice last night that he kept his starters in longer than the UNF coach did.

RE: North Florida post game thread
I'm not ready to concede that Billings can't score. I'm seeing a player who has been given a role to play, and he's playing it. He's playing defense, attempting to rebound and get the ball to others to score. I saw the way he shot his free throws. He was perfect. That is always an indication to me how well a kid can shoot the ball. If he has good touch and form he can shoot from the perimeter. Right now I think he doesn't have the confidence to take many shots and might be instructed to get the ball to other shooters. I don't know, but I really believe he'll be able to shoot when called upon and with a little more game experience. By the end of this season, and another year with Coach Barron, I believe he can be an effective three guard for us.

I think Stetson has as many offensive skills as Isler, and you saw what he did last night. I agree. He is filling his role. He is the Fowler of the future. The offense will come, at least enough of it.

I obviously could be very wrong, but I see him as a double digit scorer his Junior and Senior seasons, and he'll have a few this year. I believe he's the type of kid who will work hard to improve on his weaknesses. I've always like him, as opposed to a few who didn't believe he could play at this level. I'm not sure, but I think I might have seen him fall off a turnip truck near campus the other day!

How was the crowd?

I am almost always disappointed with our attendance, but it was as good, or better, than we typically get for an opener especially on a Monday night. Amazingly, the student section was pretty packed. The upper section had few beyond the posters on this board and their friends.

You won't find any ghosts up in the cheap seats. We don't allow them up there. Was impressed with the student section. I just wish they'd make some noise. Need Scotto there for a true count though.
