Good win for Kent. In non-conference play, all MAC fans should root for everybody. Every win helps. With the way the RPI works, every non-conference win by a MAC team has a huge impact on every single team's strength of schedule calculation.
No, not in the slightest. We're a young team and dont have much depth. Our leading returning scorer averaged under 10 PPG last year. The absolute best case scenario was everyone gels, we sneak up and beat some teams we shouldn't and get into the Tournament as one of the last two teams in. In reality, we're an NIT team and should be much better next year. I dont think there are too many programs that will complain about only making the Tournament for six straight years.

Great win Kent State!
The headline in Philly is Temple loses by 4 to the 4th place picked MAC-East team...
The headline is Kent State beat an NIT team with zero depth playing their second game together. Congratulations.

Trust me. nobody is on suicide watch. Kent is a good team. I could see their name being called in March. Also a very strong program with a decent string of good seasons. Coach looks to be good. Lots of respect here.

I remember last time Kent played Temple in basketball they actually were fairly positive about our program. They did not like the MAC for basketball but they did like several basketball programs and Kent State seemed to be one of them.

I will add my congrats to the Kent basketball program. Very good win.
The MAC now has three pretty big non-league wins already (New Mexico State, Northern Iowa and Temple), lets see if Akron can make it No. 4 (St. Mary's).
Regardless, it's been a strong start for the MAC.

Akron trailing Saint Mary's 31-38 at half time. Lots of unforced errors for Akron, and their shots aren't falling.

And typical Akron. Lay a flat-out egg on national TV (good thing nobody saw it ... this time). Long season, but I'm downgrading the Zips big-time after tonight. Best team in the MAC, maybe. THE favorite, god, I hope not, unless the MAC really is a two-bid league.

Well, if your freshmen would get significant minutes on any other team in the MAC and you can't beat St. Mary's, I'd say the rest of us are in huge trouble.

Almost - I can root for any of the MAC teams, but I can't root for Akron. I can respect them as a good team, but rivalries trump that

That's right about zero depth - you played 8 players, and 3 of them had 4 fouls. If we went into overtime, you'd be in trouble.

watched the first half of the Akron game. Tough to read too much out of 1 game this early in the season, especially one with a tip time of 3am. The Zips looked good defensively but I don't see them dominating the conference with their current PG situation. Will need better ball movement to open up their strength in the post.

Way too early to read into season results. Fairest thing to say is that WMU and KSU look to be the best coming out of the first week, and that's not saying much.

Akron lost Nick Harney to a back injury early in the 2nd half, and that was that. The shots weren't falling, the officiating was befuddling , and the communication wasn't there.
To my eye, it looks like they need time to work on team chemistry.

Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle........
From the asst. director of media relations at WMU:
Quote:NOTE: By virtue of allowing the fewest points among the teams to go 2-1 at the tournament, the Western Michigan Broncos are the 2013 Rainbow Classic Champions. This marks the second year in a row the Broncos have won an in-season tournament.
2013 Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Rainbow Classic Champions: Western Michigan Broncos
All-Tournament Team
David Brown, Western Michigan
Patrick Miller, Tennessee State
Daniel Mullings, New Mexico State
Tshilidzi Nepahwe, New Mexico State
Christian Standhardinger, Hawai'i
MVP: Isaac Fotu, Hawai'i

What was the saying again? Defense wins championships.

It's an issue everyone was aware of going into the season and it's why Fran Dunphy will be coaching elsewhere in the next 2 years.

Well, none of the freshman are point guards. That's the problem.
Watching OU-OSU, put Stevie Taylor on Akron and they run away with the league. The lack of PG play will be the achilles heel.

Bobcats basketball showing some promise against Ohio State. Heavy foul trouble and a slow start, but Taylor and Kellogg having good games.
