Paul Newberry @pnewberry1963
For those keeping count, Atlanta metro area plans to open TWO new stadiums at total cost of $1.872 billion in 2017. #Falcons #Braves

Well, I guess the decision-makers for Jeffco-B'ham can get a break from the constant accusations of "trying to be like Atlanta".

That particular accusation hasn't carried any weight for a long time.

Can they receive a discount if the stadium isn't really used after the 1st week in October?

RE: NBR: Atlanta Braves moving to Cobb County
They made quite a few arguments as to why this move was appropriate. While most (or all) of those can be debated ad nauseam, there's one argument they made that does not hold water at all.
From the ajc today:
"Even with a significant capital investment in Turner Field, there are several issues that cannot be overcome – lack of consistent mass transit to the facility, lack of adequate parking and lack of access to major roadways."
The spot they've picked is wonderfully convenient to 75 and 285, but apart from looking at them from a distance or trying to get high on exhaust fumes, that's about it. Traffic in that area is mind numbingly awful...8-9 lines each way of tail lights during rush hour. There's no mass transit (CCT buses don't really count as "mass" transit). While, as a resident, I think this is quite a "get" for CobbCo, I'm not sure the Braves organization has made a really sensible decision.
Maybe being 15-20 minutes away from a major league ballpark will boost my home value...

It's too bad that the Red Sox can't get a new stadium also. That old dump they play in obviously isn't working out for them.
Seriously, another new stadium for the Braves? Get outta heah!

Fenway Park is 10 years NEWER than Rickwood Field in B'ham.

What are they gonna do with Turner Field if the Braves take off for Cobb County?

The next full game I watch would be the 1st in about 20 years, but I suspect it is a ploy to try and get better accommodations.
I don't see how moving to Cobb would be good especially since it isn't on the Marta route.
I also suspect there will be a continued drop off attendance wise. I think the same thing will happen to the Falcons. The "winning spirit" is wearing off.

They've already lost the Thrashers (the 2nd NHL team they've lost), and at the same time they were heading out of town, the Hawks were up for sale, too. The Braves are showing their cowardice and the Falcons have had their wings clipped. Atlanta's regressing as a sports town, slowly but surely.

And even worse, the Birmingham media ignore Atlanta teams until they start winning, then they act like we are joined at the hip.
While there are some fans of Atlanta teams in the area, a lot are fans of other teams.

The $450 million tax break that Cobb is giving them (that Atlanta wouldn't do) probably has a lot to do with it as well.
