hand check rule and residual effect
I presume that most will not like this rule change, but am curious how it impacts both the conference and the game in general. Thoughts?

We had 61 pfs called in game one and was tough to watch.

IMO, it has the zebras skiddish and will only cause them to drag games out unnecessarily. However, with our deep bench, this may work out in our favor.

Agree with that statement. We had 56 fouls called in our game. Seemed like the longest game I've watched in a long time.

In UTEP's first game it didn't make much of a difference. UTEP was called for 21 fouls and Loyola 14. UTEP shot 12 free throw and they shot 28. Our younger players had a hard time with the rule change. We will see on Friday when UTEP plays NMSwho.

RE: hand check rule and residual effect
One thing that has concerned me about Braun's Rice teams in recent years was that our defenses never seemed to be as aggressive as the referees were allowing. We only had 17 pf's against in our opener. Granted, the size and speed of our opponents will only go up from here, but I think it will affect us in the early going less than most other squads.
