Banowsky talks CUSA realignment, TV, bowls, etc....
Banowsky likes the league's TV situation, present and future. Of course, many of the new schools are in larger TV markets, which C-USA officials believe will help in future negotiations.
"We have really good TV platforms. We play mostly on Saturdays, which is what our folks wanted," Banowsky said. "Fox and [Fox Sports 1] have been a really great pump for us; we're getting great exposure on FS1. CBS Sports continues to grow their audience - I think they're up to 50 or 60 million homes, and they're clearly in all of our markets.
"We have two more years left after this year on our agreements, so we'll begin the process of looking at the future. But the good news is content, content is limited and it's valuable and desirable, and people are consuming college football like never before."

Very upbeat article about the conference and where we're going. I'm happy that he's not longer really thinking about expansion (i.e. to 16). We have a great group of schools, with like minded approaches to athletics, with solid TV and bowl alignments, and a very competitive first year in football results. What's not to like?

I think we will get a slight bump per team in our next TV deal. I can see a 1.5 mil per team or maybe a little more.

Good article. Sounds clear to me that Charlotte will be a front runner for a future landing spot for the CUSA basketball tournament. Love the sounds of that.

This conference is really starting to come together. Lots of things to like from the West and the East divisions. First things first is we have to win. Get as many teams to bowl games as possible.

Yeah... things are really falling into place for your school to get the hell out of here like anyone with a brain aspires to do.

I despise everything about Banowsky and this so-called athletic conference.

I think we'd be extremely lucky to maintain current payouts.

I don't think Bano invite the schools he did without the blessings from TV partners and their word TV payouts would not decrease with these additions.

This. Plus, this window is the perfect time to be negotiating new deals. FOX wants to come hard at ESPiN and CBS harder. No surprise as there is a hint of blood in the water with ESPiN ratings and their overall stature with fans going south. But to make the charge they need inventory. As much as people scoff, after the P5 no network wants to be left paying for games in Troy, AL; Monroe, LA; Miami, OH; or Wyoming.

He invited ODU and Charlotte largely because of Terry Holland and Holland's desire to have regional partners with ECU. I highly doubt the tv people made any commitments based on any new member. Conf USA will receive whatever the market allows. The AAC has set the low bar for non power conferences. Why would the tv folks have any interest in providing more money if there is already a model in place for doing it on the cheap. In fact, what is to stop the tv execs to low ball Conf USA and make the argument that being on tv is a prize in itself and offer little to no money as a result.

Our current tv partners are already shafting us by buying up more AAC games instead of increasing CUSA matchups

The 2013 Liberty Bowl comments are ominous. If the Liberty shuts us out, which I assume is a Big East/American option, are we down to 5 bowl games this year?

I would imagine that we'd get a BBVA bowl slot in Birmingham. The AAC will only have 5 teams, and if they get a Liberty slot, they'll be open in both Beef O Brady's and Birmingham. Surely if we get hosed out of the Liberty Bowl then we could secure that slot in the Ham.

This. The AAC is only going to have 5 bowl teams. The AAC cant fill all their bowl this year.

The SEC won't be able to fill some of their slots. They have 9 spots besides any BCS games or championship slots. They have 8 eligible, 2 eliminated, and of remaining 4, only 1 is likely to get eligible. And if they get 2 teams into BCS games or champ slots then they will have 2 bowl games they need teams for.

We shall see. But the AAC tv deal was a completely different situation that CUSA will find itself in two years from now.

Given the agreement details between the Liberty/BBVA and SEC/AAC/CUSA, the SEC is going to have to get to 10 eligible teams for CUSA to play in the Liberty Bowl. If there isn't an SEC team available to play in Birmingham (at this point unlikely), then the AAC gets to take CUSA's slot in Liberty to play the SEC. At that point, we'd get Birmingham and the MAC would take AAC's slot in St Pete to satisfy their backup arrangement.
If this happens and CUSA replaces the Liberty slot with Birmingham, I think we all know where MT will be headed.
