As redshirt decision lingers, Morman sits out for UC

Freshman guard Deshaun Morman was the only University of Cincinnati scholarship player who didn’t play in the Bearcats’ 74-61 victory Friday night over North Carolina Central.

UC coach Mick Cronin said Morman didn’t play because he’s trying to decide if he will redshirt this year, which apparently is Cronin’s recommendation.

“He and I are talking about it,” Cronin said. “He knows how I feel, but it’s his decision.”

Sean Kilpatrick, who will finish his career as one of the top scorers in UC history, also redshirted as a freshman.

“He’s got a great example seeing what it did for SK,” Cronin said.

Morman, from Richmond, Va., did not play in UC’s first exhibition game due to a groin injury. He played three minutes in the second exhibition vs. Bellarmine.

Red shirting seemed to really mature SK and make a hungry basketball player, i hope it does the same to Morman

Morman broke his foot yesterday in practice...tough break for the kid

That probably makes his decision about red-shirting a little easier.

I noticed he palayed a few minutes in saturdays game against appy state . Would that have burned his redshirt ?

I was there, he didnt play. was that on the ESPN box scores? I remember last year they always had JD3 checking in. Espn is a joke these days

Yes. I didn't get a chance to watch much of the game because I was watching the rutgers game. I checked under the ESPN box score and they showed his name and O- 1 shooting. I thought possibly that was wrong

That's too bad about the injury. By the time he gets back, there probably won't be a ton of practice reps available with the team because the guys that are getting game minutes are going to need them. Most of his work will have to be individual. With Strickland not being cleared to practice, it doesn't look like either of our redshirts will get much work with the team this year.
