Alex Gillett
The Green Bay Packers have officially announced what we found out yesterday: that quarterback Scott Tolzien has been promoted from the practice squad to the 53-man active roster. In order to fill his spot on the practice squad, Green Bay has brought back wide receiver Alex Gillett, who was in training camp with the team.

I am happy for Alex and shows that we have talent coming out of EMU and should be a good selling point for recruiting HS kids..

It wasn’t ripping, but criticism balancing out those who portrayed him as a combination of Tim Tebow,Vince Young, and RGIII.

The guy wasn’t a very good QB. At least not for a team running a pro-style offense. However, he is a decent athlete.

Frankly, I would focus more on Andy Mulumba. He actually plays quite a bit for the Packers. The Pack love themselves EMU Eagles.(Mulumba, Gillett, and Lang.)

Mulumba started on Monday night. We had an EMU starter on both sides of the ball for Green Bay. Pretty cool.

Sadly, he was carted off the field pretty early. Not a season-ender though...he was limited in practice today, from what I see on twitter.

I just wish that Alex was given the opportunity to play more WR at EMU.
To have only played a few games at WR and be on an NFL practice squad is pretty impressive.

One of RE's weaknesses is that he does not get players into the position that best fits them and the program. Most kids are stuck in their HS positions in his program.

Genyk may have had his faults but he did do a good job of re-positioning players.

Good luck to Alex, the Packers have had problems keeping their WRs healthy so there is a chance he could play.

Another poster (Eaglehawk?) described Gillett as "fast, athletic, great balance, obviously understand pass routes."

wEagle replied: "Apparently no one sees him as you do. Unsigned as of yet by a NFL team."

I saw this as simply SOP for weagle. He is simply eager to diminish the accomplishments of people associated with EMU.

Anyone with an open mind who saw Gillett play knew he was a good athlete.

Yea and the NFL wouldn't put a QB on their practice squad as a WR because he was a "decent athlete". I think their standards are a little higher than that.
