And yet they act as if it's a level playing field (court).

Crazy ending. Broncos had a 3 point lead with a few seconds left with the ball under the NMSU basket and went deep. Richie got tripped, so 1 and 1. Then the NMSU coach calls a TO when he was out of them. Technical.
So, a one possession game turned into a 6 point win.
The entire 5 in the game at the end all had 4 fouls.
Nice win for the team to start the season, and it was done without Whittington. Led the entire game. NMSU tied it once and cut the lead to 1 late. David Brown with 23.
A win over NMSU is a great win. Congratulations.

Is it me, or are MAC & D1 basketball teams starting to play more non-D1 teams? As far as I know, these MAC teams played non-D1: Toledo, BG, EMU, Kent. It seems like just a few years ago no one was playing non-D1 teams.

Last night WMU lost to the host Hawaii 78 - 68. The Broncos controlled the tempo and the game for much of the first half. Hawaii began to pull away late.
Tomorrow, they'll finish up against Tenn. St. and head home. I like what I've seen of this group so far.

Yes. More MAC programs are quitting on trying than a couple years back. They would rather get a free D-2 opponent at a home game than a "buy" game where they bring in a real program.

11/23 Heidelberg. D-3.
Sorry to hear Ohio has quit on trying. Although I'm sure you will find a reason not to apply your high standards to your own school.

Apples and oranges, axeme. He specified D2 teams. D3 is OK. Besides Heidelberg has a real Euro, cultural sounding name and enhances OU's academic credentials.

BBall attendance too hard to track through the season so no separate thread but here's attendance numbers for the opening weekend.
11,162- Ohio
4,217- Akron
3,971- Toledo
2,677- Eastern Michigan
2,240- Kent State
1,060- Northern Illinois
N/A- Central Michigan
N/A- Bowling Green
Couldn't find published numbers for CMU and BG, if anyone knows feel free to share.

1 non-division I team is allowed to be counted against Division I team standings. Most of the MAC teams schedule one. Only Northern Illinois and Western Michigan don't have one on the schedule this year. Ball State has 2, and Eastern Michigan has 3. On the other side of it, though, Eastern Michigan has probably the 2 hardest MAC games this year, at Syracuse and Duke.

Bingo.
1 non-D-1 game is completely acceptable in my mind. Free home game that counts to your W (hopefully) column. Every game beyond that is a waste for all MAC programs.
3 for EMU is also completely acceptable. That is where they should be competing anyway.
EMU uses two big paydays to not spend on athletics. That money isn't going to improving the program. It is going to the President's bank account. Same with their cut of MAC shared revenue.
For a real D-1 college, that money goes to getting some real home opponents.

And we play at Kentucky.
Plus we play UMass, Purdue, Green Bay, and Robert Morris. Definitely not a cakewalk OOC schedule.

Like UMass? Or Purdue last year? And Michigan State the year before? Or are you gonna say they don't count as quality home games?
That's where we should be competing huh? Haha, I'll laugh when we beat you this year.

And I suspect that most of this board will join you in that laugh. Optometrist is mental or something. He is an embarrassment to OU.

Don't be ridiculous. OU is on a different level than the MAC, the G5, the P5, the planet even. I'm hearing rumors that the Intergalactic Conference is going to invite the flagship cause the athletic program and university as a whole are so much better than the rest of us. Better in that they lost to CMU at home. Better in that their highest attendance mark this year is lower than the lowest attendance in 6 of 10 AAC schools (a list which includes winless UConn and a USF team which lost to McNeese State). Better in that they finished 9th and 8th in the Reese/Jacoby standings for 2012-13. BTW, did you know that 118% of OU students were athletes in high school?
It's really a shame, since there are some respectful OU fans with a head on their shoulders that post good info on here. A few bad eggs ruin it all.

try to look past (i.e., ignore) the bad eggs. it would do us ALL a favor! I know it's hard since they are so boisterous (i.e., annoying, obnoxious, etc.!) but I hope you all can start looking past them.
