It's awesome to reflect on but Alabama's run defense was awful. They gave up almost 300 yards rushing to Arkansas the next weekend. I'm too lazy to find their team rush defense stats but I'm pretty sure they were bad. Fun to say now since Bama has been at the top of CFB for the past several years though.

According to YahooSports, Bama was #50 in Rush Defense in 2003, giving up an average of 132.5 yds/game. Not great, but not bad for a team that played 8 SEC teams, Oklahoma and NIU.

Glad to help you out.

The 2003 team with Nick Duffy could beat just about anybody. And yes Lynch is better than Haldi. Once Duffy went down the 2003 team never quite recovered. I still remember one awful Saturday that I spent at BGSU

Turner beat Roethliesberger. He could beat Lynch.

I think the 2003 team (when healthy) was overall a better team. That 2003 team really had great balance and no real apparent weak spots. The 2013 team may have more depth at a lot of key positions though? If its 1's vs 1's you have to go with 2003 team though.

Haven't heard anyone say Haldi was better than Lynch. Not one person.

I loved that 02/ 03 team , they beat a 10-2 #12 ranked Maryland team and Bama @ Bama, but this 12/13 group is right there. The 03 MAC and 13 MAC are very similar. IMO 13 has 3 great teams BSU, UT and our beloved with Buffalo hanging tough.

Beating both Ball St and Toledo would be a major accomplishment.

Haldi, turner, Sheldon > lynch, stinger, TLL

That's really not a fair equation because obviously any side that Turner is on is going to seem better. It just doesn't look right to see Haldi on a > side compared to Lynch though no matter who you group him with.

2003 Team..Haldi was extremely smart and was an excellent game manager as a qb. The 2003 team was very big, physical, and strong. the 2013 team has more speed. I would take the 03 team because they had so much skill on the defensive side. That was a true Novak team to the core and he still had his better assistants at the time.

I guess the question is could the 03 defense stop JL6 and the spread. I say no. Could the 2013 defense contain Turner and penetrate a solid O-Line.... Nope. Who wins? give me the team with the best QB.

RE: 2003 huskies vs 2013 huskies. Who would win?
Oregon is a spread speed offense with talent in the quarterback position as well as wide out and got destroyed by a power O running team with a strong D. I'm not sure that JL wouldn't have the same difficulty against the 02-03 team. The 13 D would be gassed by the 4th and Turner would run wild. 7-8 min drives. I love JL but that would be one hell of a game to watch. JL can get frustrated if he can't find his rythm. The 02-03 would control the clock and not let 13 have a chance to come back. Was Azar the kicker in 03? He was a hell of a kicker as well with Sheldon returning, 03 ST could be equal or better than 13.

Yeah like the 634 yards Bowling Green put up or the 49 points for Toledo.

Two very tough road games. In retrospect, this question would be best answered after the next two games. 2013 NIU has its two biggest games coming up. 2003 beat the bigger names but lost when it needed wins the most.

yeah, by the time 03 team got to the BG and Toledo games, we were missing key defensive personnel that were on the opening day roster due to injury.
