"Cross helped lead Centerville High School to an elite eight state finish last season with a 26-2 record. The 5'5" point guard averages 3.8 points, 2.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.4 steals per game in her career."

As a Senior she's shooting 35% FG with 7 points and 1.3 assists per game. The overall career numbers are very poor, poor shooting, not many points but also very little assists. Sometimes you can excuse low scoring by being playmaker, but that doesn't seem the case either. There are several DI recruits on the team, so she could be distributing the ball, but it's not like the assists and steals are impressive at all. Sometimes stats are way overrated, but what part of these screams DI player? I've also seen her listed as 5'3" and she looks pretty small in the photo.

Absolutely nothing says D1. I just hope she is the worst of the bunch.

I hate to say it, but looking at the photo of the recruits together outside of maybe one of the girls I can't help but think they don't resemble DI athletes.

Cross is listed at 230 pounds in the listing Polish Hammer posted. How can that possibly be right for a point guard?

(And I agree her stats are underwhelming.)

The one other girl in the photo looks that heavy but certainly not that little PG.

Agree. I can only hope. You should read the website this morning. They are bragging about matching last years win total and the fact they beat Niagara by 21 over a month ago. That's really stretching it.

Well I wasn't seeing things at the men's game the other night. Lurkin is [/font]standing under the basket with a boot up to her knee and just for good measure some crutches. I guess she tried to play with an injury but had to be shutdown. There goes our best freshman. I suppose we will see a lot more of Mendelsohn which might help us see once and for all if she can help us.

RE: Women's team
Leading 32-28 at halftime. The second half started and in a few minutes we were down 44-34. Never got closer than about 8 and lost to an average Ohio team, 76-59. Ohio had 8 players and with 14 minutes left the had three players with four fouls and two with three. Most were on the court for most of the final 14 and not one fouled out ( I left at the 1:30 mark). They even played man to man for over half the 14 minutes. Next home game against CMU. Say a prayer as that one could get really ugly.

Total collapse the second half. Ohio made adjustmentrs and played a great second half. This was not a good example of Kent State basketball.

Not sure about the Kent women but our ladies had not practiced due to the poor weather for three days until the shoot around on Thursday afternoon. They'll be ready for Coach Kest and Akron on Sunday.

We have three players out right now -
Katrina Salinas had surgery yesterday (I think it was ACL)
The two freshmen - Leah Bolton and Kennedy Kirkpatrick have nagging injuries and neither has played yet this season

The size of the bench has me concerned about March come tourney time.

I officially eat crow. BG played a great game up at CMU today. I guess they looked bad at Kent because they only neede their C game to beat us.

RE: Women's team
From Dave Carducci's blog a few days ago, O'Bannion's class is ranked 3rd in the MAC:
AN IMPRESSIVE ALL-OHIO CLASS … Women’s basketball coach Danielle O’Banion is getting some impressive early reviews for her third recruiting class at Kent State.
The Collegiate Girls Scouting Report ranks the incoming class at Kent State No. 3 in the MAC.
All six players in this new class are Ohio natives from winning programs. Add up the records of the high schools where the six played last season and you get a combined mark of 108-17.

Two of the six are McDonalds All-American nominees. Four were All-Ohio selections and three of the six were 1,000-point scorers in their high school careers.

SCHEDULE ROUNDING OUT … The Kent State Women’s Basketball schedule for 2015-16 should be completed in the next week with open dates on Nov. 14 and Dec. 21 expected to be filled.

The schedule tentatively includes home games vs. Youngstown State, Belmont, Arkansas State and Wright State. Road games would include trips to Northwestern, Duquesne, Cleveland State and a tournament at Cal Poly that would feature games with Dartmouth and Texas A&M Corpus Christi.

It's good news but let's see how it works before we get too excited. By the way why does everybody get so excited about them being all from Ohio. I never understood that. Who cares where they come from as long as they play well. What am I missing? It's not like we are Ohio St. and have a chance to get the cream of the crop.

1. We don't have to pay the put of state premium on tuition.
2. Friends, family are more likely to travel to games.

Ok that makes some sense assuming they are good players. I especially understand the cost savings.

The coaches all seem to have bonuses based on signing in-state kids.
