They and Bama both claim the 1964 National title. Bama was #1 pre bowls and polls declared National Champ after the regular season back then. AP declared Bama Champions. Bama then lost their bowl game and Arkansas won, so Razorback fans declared themselves National Champions.

Ark30inf is right, their most hallowed game in program history ended in a loss...but hey the atmosphere was awesome.

Depends on who you ask. If you ask the AP. No.

Actually, their greatest most revered, talked about, and reminisced about game is a loss.

I'm curious; which game is that?

The BIG SHOOTOUT. 1969. Richard Nixon was there. Last major all-white southern football game. They talk about it, write books about it, do documentaries, hold anniversaries, write articles, reminisce about it, etc. Biggest game they were ever part of. They expect Longhorn fans to hold it in the same absolute reverence that they do.

And it was a loss.

I've never understood glorifying a loss as the most important moment in your program's history. Maybe its just me.

Hell they show the damn thing on TV about once a year.

That in itself shows the crap we have. A team on the cusp of one the greatest moments in college football history loses and they cling to the idea that they are still that 1969 team and revel in re-watching the greatest moment turn into a nut-kick as Texas came from behind to win.

I had honestly never heard of that game.

I've never been too impressed with Arkansas. They've usually just been a middle to lower level SEC program.

Bama now claims 15 national championships. If you added up all the claimed national championships from the last 100 years, it would probably add up to over 200.

Is that a hint of little kid jealousy I detect coming from Mobile?

In fairness, I never really get into the number of NC we have.

That's more of a sidewalk fan thing to argue about.

Not jealousy, just stating the fact that they claim them. Can't be jealousy, I grew up a Bama fan waiting for South to get football, it's a hard habit to break.

You know, I live in Austin, have always lived in Texas, and hear about longhorn football from friends and family members with great regularity.

I have never even heard of this game, and had no idea UT was involved until you said "they expect Longhorn fans to hold it in the same reverence they do".
