Tulane is building an on-campus stadium. They don't need the Superdome anymore.

That was a great little stadium. My dad took me to a San Antonio Toros game there in the mid-60s.

Astro Dome is in Houston... next to Reliant Stadium... former home of the Astros and Oilers!

Way too small. Alamo stadium holds way less than UTSA averages.

UTSA plays at alamodome not astrodome. Alamodome is only 20 years old and won't be demolished any time soon. Also astrodome is in Houston not san antonio.

RE: Astrodome
They voted down in Houston yesterday during our state wide elections as to what to do with the Astrodome. I have not read the results of that vote.

Again........I was at its Grand Opening which featured an exhibition game inside "the 8'th Wonder of the World" (as it was called upon its completion) and that was on April 9, 1965, between the Astros and NY Yankees.

President Lyndon Johnson and Ladybird, Governor John Connally and wife Nellie, the Kilgore Rangerettes, etc, etc, etc, were at the "Domes grand opening as well.

I attended many UH Cougar football games there as well and saw the famous UCLA/Houston game there which featured Lew Alcindor (his name then) and UH's Elvin Hayes. There were 50,000 fans at that game and NBC's Dick Enberg credits that huge college basketball event as the pioneer game which made NCAA basketball a national sport instead of it being regional as it had been before.

Yankees versus Astros & Mickey Mantle Visits UNT's Super Pit

I saw Mickey Mantle hit the first home run in the Astrodome (albeit was an exhibition game so therefore unofficial). I later met Mickey Mantle at UNT's Super Pit at an event sponsored by late North Texas basketball coach Bill Blakely. He and Mantle (who also lived in Dallas) were good friends. I was like a darn, blushing school kid when I shook "The Mick's" hand and to be honest I cried (like many other Baby Boomers) the day he died over at Baylor Hospital, Dallas. Mickey Mantle was a part of our childhood memories in this good ol' USA

The Astros won that game against the Yankees in extra innings and that on a Texas league single by Astros player/coach Nellie Fox, ie, the former Chicago White Sox All Star 2'nd baseman who is still not in the MLB Hall of Fame. He was also famous for that big chaw of tobacco in his mouth. I believe that tobacco problem ultimately (and sadly) caused his terminal cancer.

I do not want them to tear this stadium down but put it in the National Registry of historic buildings. Its upkeep is expensive, but it was still the world's first indoor stadium and that alone makes it worthy of keeping.........IMHO, of course.

Nothing, for years. They don't even have an occupancy permit from the county. The place is too far gone to use. They would need to pour hundreds of millions into it for anything.

It is a sad day for Houston. Maybe Harris County comes up with an alternative, but it looks more likely like we lose this unique structure before the next Houston Super Bowl game. But the voters also rejected a $90M football stadium for Katy High School.
