NIU is going to get a serious SOS boost in the next couple of weeks (Toledo, Ball State). The gap between NIU and fresno is going to be rasor thin for that at large spot...

Temple could have done the MAC a favor by beating Rutgers.

Yeah NIU probably has 3 of it's 4 toughest opponents left (Toledo, Ball State, and then the MACC if they get that far).

My thoughts, if I could get them together between the crying and puking I would be doing after hearing such mortifying news about an amazing season:

My thoughts?

In a year coming off a BCS bowl, with a legitimate Heisman contender (if he played just. about. anywhere. else) and currently a very, very good chance of going undefeated, winning the West and the MACC, I would prefer a a BCS conference opponent for NIU.

In any other year where the Huskies have a couple losses, a regular team, and maybe a West title but a MACC loss etc, ULM would be a great game and one I would be proud to gather a bowl W.

This is not to say a ULM wouldn't be a perfectly acceptable opponent able to challenge the Huskies this year, but 2013 is a year has the potential to be different, and I would prefer a little more name recognition in a bowl game.

Thoughts?

God bless the Cajuns, but the current Huskies deserve better this bowl season. Either a BCS bowl or pimped non-BCS matchup. Screw the system that would keep us in the Godaddy and send a 7-5 Pig10 team to a sexier destination.

Phil Steele is projecting the same I believe. I don't have it in front of me. He also is projecting Baylor vs. Fresno State in Fiesta Bowl. Imagine though, a Baylor vs. NIU Fiesta Bowl. That game could take six hours to play!

Anyway, an NIU vs. ULM matchup is an ugly thought.

Thoughtful and tactful post, thanks Lord Stanley. From the standpoint of ULM being a fellow Belt member, I support their team, of course. This year has been a tough one for ULM with their starting QB out with injury for a number of weeks. He's back now, I got to see some highlights of his play, and he's impressive. Throws the ball amazingly well on the run. ULM is still in the title race so they're hanging tough.

Having said that, based on the level of play by the Huskies this year, I don't see any Belt team keeping up with them. I wish you guys the best of luck and agree, a bowl with a team with better name recognition is warranted this year, especially if the Huskies can finish the season at they started it.

If NIU doesn't go to the BCS, at least send them to San Diego for the Poinsettia. A matchup versus a better MWC team would be more interesting than another Belt team that (with all due respect to ULM) the Huskies would kill.

good lord he just gave NIU the kiss of death. You do not mention a pitcher is throwing a no hitter and you definitely do not bring up anyhting related to injuries during an undefeated season.03-shhhh

I think any team who goes undefeated wants to prove themselves against one of the best.

If we can't get a BCS bowl, then some trading needs to be done to match us up against a BCS conference opponent. If that is not possible, then i feel that the Poinsettia is the next best thing. Great city and possible Boise State opponent.

Nothing like S. California to be sure though I was surprised at how poorly attended the last two have been.....24K and 35K respectively. Guess the distance and travel costs have a major impact on fan attendance.

For the record I'd love to see you guys really stun a quality BCS opponent because the mid-level conferences just don't get any respect. And that's part of the problem with playing in a bowl like the GoDaddy. If you win big, everyone says, "well, look at the level of competition they faced". If the worst happens and you lose, then it's, "see, they didn't deserve to be in the Top 20".

A no win situation.

I hate to be gloomy but I think UCF is better than NIU and Fresno State. Them and Louisville as AAC reps are better than the non AQ's at this point. IMO....

I don't feel NIU has a high percentage to win out. Three games they will be less than 10 point favorites...eek. It's tough.

NIU's defense is going to need to play out of their minds the rest of the season to stay undefeated. Coaches know the secondary has holes.

That being said, Go NIU!

If that is the thinking that goes into predicting NIU in the Godaddy ... yes, a 1-loss NIU, MACC winners in the GoDaddy is one thing.

But by the same token, the fact that its a harder run than Fresno State should mean NIU gets more benefit if they do win out.

That same site has Louisville facing Georgia Tech in the Russell Athletic Bowl, Texas versus Fresno State in the Fiesta Bowl, and UCF facing Florida State in the Orange Bowl.
