If NIU beats, Ball State, Toledo, and then either Ohio, BG, or Buffalo they will be in a BCS Bowl.

They also get the luxury of being showcased against Ball State,Toledo, and WMU on ESPN. Only game on TV, all 3 nights.

Fresno has Wyoming, New Mexico, and San Jose State left. They are going to be out of sight out of mind.

For what it's worth, Brad Edwards has NIU leapfrogging Fresno because of that.

I don't think it's going to be that simple. just this week, Oklahoma State and Michigan State both jumped over NIU which slid down one spot to #18. you have to remember that last year several upsets had to happen in the last couple of weeks for NIU to get into position for a BCS bowl. Also, the human bias from the polls has to be figured in too. the pollsters might be saying, well, NIU had its shot last year. let's give it to Fresno State this year and see how they do.

for these reasons, I don't think it's as simple as win and you're in for NIU. it might be, but i'm not so sure. just saying!

Thoughts?

I'd like to see NIU v Fresno St, because I always liked the Big West conference, and that was such a memorable rivalry.

Don't forget that Fresno likely has a second matchup with Boise in the MWC Title game. I really think in the end NIU will pass them. Fresno's near losses to Rutgers and San Diego State have me not wanting them as the G5 BCS representative.

NIU would at least know what a BCS game is like and be more prepared for it.

NIU deserves better even with a loss or two. This is a team that has a chance to bust the BCS and will likely go into a bowl game 11-2 AT WORST.

Reminds me of 2009 when #25 (11- 2) CMU face Troy, who did win the Sun Belt, in a bowl game. They were hammered by BGSU earlier in the year. Would've loved a BCS opponent. CMU won a nail biter and finished 12-2 #23.....maybe NIU gets caught looking.

Don't you worry your pretty little head's NIU fans b/c Fresno will almost certainly lose to Boise State in the Mt. West Championship which should vault an undefeated Huskies team to another BCS bowl.

It's awful. Jessie Palmer was literally begging the voters to "do their jobs and keep Fresno and Northern Illinois out of the top 20" on the BCS Countdown this past Sunday.

It was quite pathetic to hear a grown man beg (it literally sounded like begging) for voters to prevent a team he knows nothing about from being in a prominent bowl game.

Voters are not watching that show anyway. And if they do, they could careless what Jessie or Davie have to say.

I don't think that's true AT ALL. I think NIU's current negative reputation has been shaped almost exclusively by that show. Voters latched onto it and you are seeing the results this year.

Biases aside, I just never thought Iwould live to see the day like you say, a grown man football analyst begging for voters to prevent a team from having success. You would think nothing would be suprising at this point, but even my jaw was on the ground, that was just an incredible moment.

Yes, I'd like to see that - I thought someone posted that a different guy on E$PN was doing the exact same thing.

it was actually David Pollack who said it, not Jessie. but no one disagreed with him, so I guess they were all in cohoots.

Sounds about right. They're all about P5 teams and no one else. There are only a few at E$PN that don't think like that.

Fowler is the one that really disappoints me. Many years ago, he was the champion of the underdog type story. He was always happy to see the little guys make headway. Now he just feeds at the trough like the rest of the BCS/AQ and big money sycophants.

BCS countdown I believe is the show on before the BCS standings show, and I think it's on ESPNU. Pollack said it on the standings show...now it sounds like Palmer said it on the other show as well. Awesome.
