Their problem is Fresno St. Only one of them will play in a BCS game. Fresno is ranked higher right now and unless they lose NIU won't have any games coming up that can leapfrog them. UCF is ranked lower but will get the old BE tie in they don't deserve.

Doesn't the godaddy bowl get the MAC champion? Assuming Louisiana wins out and Northern Illinois gets sent to the the godaddy bowl, that would be a hell of a match up. If that were to happen, would the cajuns skip the New Orleans bowl in favor of the godaddy?

Would probably try to work a deal to get NIU to New Orleans first. Bigger venue, better timing for bowl.

Unfortunately, as nice a match up as it would be, NIU would probably smoke any belt team, including ULL. If I was the Cajuns, I would want that match up as, you have several bowl wins. As a ULM fan, we need a bowl win, so they wouldn't be my first choice.

This is my opinion only, and likely not that of the UL administration; but I would much prefer N O Bowl against any CUSA team with a record of 9-3 or better [all of which are very beatable for us] to Go-Daddy vs a pissed off 13-0 and ranked NIU.

Now, if we can get NIU in the Dome.... that's a home game for us; we will bring 50,000. Would be good for UL if we win, and good for the SBC, win or lose.

You are not going to a bowl. Louisiana will worry about who we can and cannot beat, you should worry about getting bowl eligible.

You guys don't want anything to do with NIU. Trust me, those guys are really good.

The bowl system sucks. ESPECIALLY when you are in a conference with only 2 guaranteed bowl slots.

Welcome to the club, I think all of us current SB members have been sitting home at one time or another with a bowl elig. record...2011 we finished 2nd in conf. at 7 and 1 and sat home....I fully expect WKU to be sitting home this season as well unless we can go 8 and 4...I am not holding my breath for that to happen...

Glad next season will be much easier to actually play in a bowl even if its far away, haha...And to the newbies at this bowl watching, its amazing what Power Conf. teams do... you will be amazed on how so many teams end up 6 and 6...This will be my 3rd year following which teams become bowl elig. and it never fails, teams you do not want to become bowl elig. somehow become 6 and 6 and bowling when all said and done...

Chief, I agree with you. I would rather tell recruits that my team has won three bowls in a row, than that we have been to three in a row. Not at all sure we could beat NIU, even with a huge homefield advantage. No team in CUSA really worrys me.

No guts, no glory. Play the best damned team you can.

While I'm a big fan of the New Orleans Bowl, and have said I'd rather it over the GoDaddy Bowl most any circumstance, if it meant a shot at a team like N. Illinois, I'd be tempted, very tempted.

And while it'd be nice to say the Cajuns won 3 straight bowl games, the last one versus a Tulane, etc, how nice would it be to say we won 3 straight, the last over a Top 20 team? Not saying we'd beat 'em, but you gotta get on the field before you can find out.

Beating a # 20 Northern Illinois would not get you any more national press than beating Tulane, and a loss to them, even a close loss, is just another loss, not a 'loss to a top 20 team'. If a Sun Belt school beats NIU, they would just say that NIU must not have been as good as advertised. Now if you beat a ranked P5 school, you will be media darlings for a year.

True that, though N. Ill may go undefeated this year and be ranked quite a bit higher than they are today. I'm just a believer in playing the best teams you can play.

And from a mental standpoint, it all could be a plus for the Cajuns. How many times have we seen a 'big name' school whine about a bowl or bracket assignment with a some no-name and the no-name wins?

I doubt the State of Louisiana is worried about who you can or can't beat. I am concerned about getting bowl eligible. I know stAte, USA, and ULL are all very good teams who can beat us. Most ULM fans actually give our opponents the respect they deserve and would be humble even if we were undefeated in conference, so unless you are God, you don't know if we are going to a bowl or not. We are the only other conference team that controls our own destiny in the conference race. That much I know.

The Cajuns compete with Tulane for a lot of recruits, particularly in the New Orleans area. So beating them as often as possible, especially 2 months before signing day, is a good incentive as well.

I see your side, but just thought I'd throw another angle out there.

Idaho if bowl eligible gets the MWC slot in the Potato Bowl if they end up without six eligible teams .

Hopefully next year we can take advantage of that opportunity .

Personally, if the Cajuns can get past Troy, I'd like to see them back in the New Orleans Bowl. How do you guys feel about that? Anyone prefer to see them in the GoDaddy Bowl? If so, why?

Actually, this year, the NOB can't really offer ULL a bid until they clinch the conference. The NOB is obligated to take the league champ this year.

The GDB doesn't owe the NOB bowl any favors. Its unlikely they cut a bowl that undercut them last year by picking out of turn any slack.

Normally I would advise UL to travel to finally prove they will travel. But if they can get a shot at Tulane by sticking at home...its probably a good idea for them and the conference. If its anyone else...think about traveling for a change.

NOB is not obligated to take the league champ any longer. There is no more 2/4 rule in place, they can offer any SBC team that is eligible.
