RE: Week 10 MACtion Gamethread
First blood goes to the Minutemen, 3-0 UMASS.
NIU answers quickly, 7-3 on a Lynch TD run.
UMASS with another long FG, 7-6 NIU. Looks like the Minutemen may have solved their kicking issues.
21-6 NIU now, and as I type this, NIU intercepts and is on the cusp of scoring again.

RE: Week 10 MACtion Gamethread
Big 'ol defensive tackle Ken Bishop intercepted a screen play and gave NIU great position within the UMass 10-yd line. Then Cameron Stingily takes it in for NIU's 4th rushing TD of the day.
28-6 NIU.

NIU's LT is being removed on a stretcher. :( Looks like a UMASS player got flung into the back of his legs while he was engaged.

Yes, not good. that's 3 straight seasons Tyler Loos has had to deal with an injury. Too bad for him. Looks like the season-ending type too.
NIU with a lot of backups in on defense and looks like backup QB is warming up.
UMass just hit another 40+ yd FG. 49-16 NIU.

RE: Week 10 MACtion Gamethread
Final: 63-19 NIU
3rd-string QB Drew Hare was 2-for-4 passing with 98 yards and 1 TD passing, and had two carries for 52 yards for 1 TD.
Game was really sloppy from mid-3rd qtr to mid-4th qtr for NIU with two fumbles.
Edit: I just noticed UMass only gave up more than 37 points to one other team, Wisconsin. I didn't realize UMass defense was only giving up 29 ppg before this game.

Northern Illinois in the B1G would be the #2 team right now behind Ohio State in the BCS rankings over the Michigan schools and Wisconsin.
Nice job.

I'm as much of a homer for MAC teams as anybody, but do you really believe that NIU could go against the MSU defense and score more than 17? Or even beat them? I don't. So while you can spout such nonsense, KC, it doesn't make it true but rather just more of your silliness.
Not saying that NIU doesn't deserve recognition for going unbeaten, just that the rankings don't reflect reality.

I tend to agree with you. Our defense is still very much a work in progress. I don't think we would fare well against Michigan State or Wisconsin at all, and Ohio State goes without saying.
Michigan, Penn State, Nebraska, Minnesota. Sure, I think we'd definitely have a shot.
All that said, it's cool as he!! that we're 9-0. Jordan Lynch is a stud and deserves every bit of recognition he gets. Whether it's warranted or not, I will not apologize at all for the #17 that is next to our name.

Its now 35-3 Toledo in the 2nd Quarter. Kareem Hunt is already over 100 yards rushing.

Hey, I would do the same were it my team. The rankings are what they are and NIU deserves mention, as there are only so many unbeaten FBS teams. Not easy to do and I don't care what league you are in.
Frankly, I don't think that Lynch gets the credit he deserves.
The meat of your schedule is coming up now. Can't wait to watch those games against BSU and Toledo.

I love the season NIU is having and think Lynch deserves to be considered a Heisman contender and hopefully the Huskies can grab another BCS bowl slot again.
But, after nine weeks I don't think you can really say your defense is a work in progress. After nine weeks, your defense is what it's going to be.

Fair enough. Let me rephrase. Our defense is quite mediocre, at best.
However, it has slowly been getting better........or should I say less bad. I'd still be absolutely terrified if we got into a BCS game and played Baylor.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the BCS bowl with the last choice of at-large team is the Fiesta Bowl. In that case, Fresno State/NIU would likely play Baylor...
