Football is fun but elections are more fun.
They're both equally meaningless.
Ah, but HB, that where you're wrong, my friend. Elections have consequences for one and all and are, therefore, not meaningless. Sports, in the end, is meaningless but elections are not.
You are right.
There are things which have great direct meaning, e.g., health, employment, etc.
Then there are things which are entertainment or diversionary endeavors like sports.
Government is close to my 1st example, that is, it has very direct and indirect effects on one's life and some can be huge, for the good or for bad.
E.g., I just saw my DDS this a.m. He has a 25 year old son who is considered disabled and he wondered about health insurance for his son (the DDS now has Medicare but has a wife and disabled son so family insurance is complicated).
Since my DDS is old enough to be entitled to Social Security he can apply for himself, even though still employed, and request disability social security for his son and get Medicare as his son's health insurance.
That would be HUGE for my dentist and his son.
My dentist's wife could get an individual policy for herself as her son and husband would have other coverage for themselves.
These things are infinitely more important than the score of the last EMU athletic contest.
