RE: EMU VS Toledo Game Day Comments
Bottom line...RE doesn't know how to coach players to actually PLAY football. They spend most their time conditioning and doing warm up drills and not enough time on learning plays. Now he's benching Benz just like he benched Gillett. He gets rid of Karcher and Snow and hmmmm no improvement. Year 5, he can no longer point the finger....RE has to go. UMass defense is better than EMUs!!

"RE has to go."

I think we can safely surmise that RE will no longer be the coach after the last game.

Just because it hasn't been announced I think we can assume that RE's fate is 99.9% certain and I'm not sure why I didn't say 100%.

Some schools handle non-renewals differently than others. Ramsey was non-renewed, not fired, in men's basketball a few years ago.

As all know this is the last year of RE's contract so there is no reason to fire him.

This reminds me of what sometimes happens to employees: They are allowed to resign instead of being fired.

RE will 'avoid' the stigma of being fired.
Here RE is being non-extended and not fired.

Btw, Mark Dantonio went 6-7 in his third season. I guess he is a horrible coach too.

Save it.

All those resources and talent at UM, and they piss it away because they're mentally stuck in the 70s.

Michigan was whipped by a better team that had better players and coaches.

Which should never be the case given Michigan's resources and history. If that isn't a coaching issue, what is it?

There are a couple issues. For starters, Michigan is still recovering from the RichRod era. RR had a recruiting class that had ONE OL in it. That’s insane. Then there is his God awful defensive recruiting. UM is paying for that now with lots of youth and lesser talented players playing.

Secondly, UM’s OL coach sucks. This happens. Sometimes big name schools get coaches who are terrible. MSU for example had Dan Roushar who was an horrendous OC.

Just because you have resources that does not mean you are immune from hiring poor coaches or coaches who are out of their depth, which is the case with Funk at UM. Funk coached with Hoke at SDSU and seemingly did an okay job. Here not so much.

I still think Hoke is a good coach. His track record at Ball State and SDSU tells me that he is. But he is going to have to do what John Beilein did after JB’s terrible third season and reevaluate his assistants. Clearly the job isn’t getting done to the standards Michigan football has set. UM, as you rightly noted, has too much resources and talent to be so poor on the offensive line.

The game today was an embarrassment and hopefully a wakeup call for Hoke.

I know this is an EMU forum but...

I did notice, but pretty much didn't care, but UofM was having problems in the middle of the OL this year.

Graham Glasglow who EMU recruited hard and went to UofM as a walk-on starts now at center I think.

A kid Kalis, I believe, has been starting inside. I believe he is lightly regarded.

Quite frankly, the middle of UofM's OL, is not top half of B1G-caliber. Taylor Lewan is the one stud on an otherwise mediocre line.

And as we learned all year 03-lmfao, when the OL fails, the offense fails, esp. against a team with a very solid defense.

Put Bronson Hill behind the NIU OL and he'd go for 1,500 yards. Easily.

(or put Hill on NIU behind their OL playing EMU and he'd go for 300 in one game. He'd kill our defense.).

You guys should be excited by Roback's upside. Nice arm, good quick release, showed some poise.

What appeared to be a 'dumb' move of burning his redshirt year, is looking smart.

Roback will have a very significant amount of experience as a frosh and will be much, much readier next year.

Can't get game ready redshirting. Have to go out and play in games vs. good teams, like Toledo, NIU, etc.

He seems ready and burning the redshirt won't prolong his career as an Eagle, but is a quicker path to winning for EMU.

EMU’s problem is neverending. Lack of money, interest, etc. Eastern has an excuse for their poor play. UM does not.In that sense UM’s performance is worse.

Ron English was a mediocre DC and I even pointed that out when he was hire. These results don’t surprise me. They frustrate me, but they don’t surprise.

Get a spread guy here as quickly as possible. With Hill, Roback, and the OL EMU should field a competitive team pretty quickly if the next HC is a decent coach. The talent is there for a decent team. Add a JC WR or two with speed and EMU can have a potent offense. The defense will still suck, but at least EMU can compete again from an offensive standpoint.

I agree with most of your comments but I disagree with you view of the current team, I think we may have the talent on the team but they are not taught of put in a position to be successful or the right people are not on the field.. I have said for years that we need to run a spread offense and pick apart the defense.. I am not sure why this so hard to do. At least try it..

I am using Crown Royal as my meds..

RE: EMU VS Toledo Game Day Comments
While I agree coaching is part of the problem, the lack of talent on the defense is apparent no matter which set of players we put in there. One of English's biggest failures was to land some impact defensive line players, his biggest year of success was when he had Genyk's recruits on the defensive line for their senior years, Ohrmann, Slater and another DE.

It will be interesting how a new coach will address that problem either immediate fix or longer term.

Dear Friends,
To echo what I posted on the 'Eagle Totem', I agree that the defense has been terrible, but what about the offense?
We all thought that Stan Parrish was going to open up the offense with all kinds of new and different play calling. What did we get? Pretty much the same as last year. What happened to reverses? How about more screen passes then the two or three we have seen? How about throwing down field more often? What about running to the wide side of the field? Trick plays?
I really do not think scoring 15-20 points is going to win any game for us. Yes, it would help if we had a better defense, but scoring the few points we have, will not win us another game.

I see that Hill didn't play because of "A coach decision"

http://www.easternecho.com/m/article/201...h-in-a-row

Parrish is not the answer to the offense, he has been removed too long from college football and the kids plus I don't think the players care too much for him.. I think the players still want to play but not for this staff of bozo's..

I wonder what is the story behind Hill being benched..

This tidbit is for emu Steve.

Kalis is a 5 star recruit who de-committed from OSU to sign with UofM.
He is a redshirt Fr.
Bosch is another 5 star recruit who is starting at the other guard spot. He is a true Fr.
The "O" line has been a revolving door since spring ball..
Way too many young talented guys playing a lot on both sides of the ball.
I think State has a veteran "D" and it showed...There were many voices that cautioned people that the Blue was a year away. It also didn't help that quality depth from Juniors and Seniors was sparse because of the ****** recruiting done by Rich Rod.
State was a better team today-period. They deserved it.
Any of you boys wanna give Western and 10 points in the fultility bowl this Saturday????

Wow, I feel like I am reading the Eastern Echo here.

Dave:

how about: "An echo of Eastern (Michigan) FB."

You could take the post above and take the major themes and re-write it as EMU rather than UofM.

? for WolverineEagle:

How does a head coach coming from SDSU, bring his OL coach with him and make a terrible hire?

Did the OL coach lose it crossing the Mississippi?

That should never happen!

Compare to our OL coach. Very young. Had never coached in FBS or FCS. D-II OC.

P.S. EMU had what I thought was an excellent assistant coach roster last year. This year we have the 'green and inexperienced and cheaper' roster of assistant coaches.

Perspective: The difference between EMU and the top MAC teams is about the same as Alabama and Vanderbilt in the SEC...if not greater. We are not competitive and haven't been for many, many, many years. There is no reason to believe we will be anytime soon. The definition of "hopeless." That said, how great was it to see MSU kick the crap out of Michigan?! 02-13-banana
