Here's what the Tampa Tribune had to say...

Quote:Ole Miss Holds Off Florida To Complete Sweep

GAINESVILLE - Ole Miss yanked the mustaches off Florida baseball players' faces with wins Friday and Saturday. Sunday, Gators pitchers made Florida coach Pat McMahon want to tear the hair from atop his head.

Poor hitting Friday and Saturday forced the Gators to shave the superstition-fueled facial growth that sprouted for four consecutive Southeastern Conference series wins. Poor pitching early and late Sunday got them swept as Ole Miss hung on for a 10-9 win in 10 innings.

The Gators came back twice - from deficits of 5-0 and 7-5 - but fell short of a third. Rebels catcher Barry Gunther hit a two-run homer in the top of the 10th to give Ole Miss a 10-7 lead. Former Jesuit High star C.J. Smith hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning, but the Gators (37-16, 16-11 SEC) couldn't muster enough offense to finish the comeback.

``To the guys' credit, we kept finding a way to keep the game going,'' McMahon said. ``One pitch in either direction and it's a totally different series.''

McMahon praised reliever Conner Falkenbach (7-4), who allowed three runs in 7 2/3 innings. The coach did not seem as pleased with the pitchers who book-ended Falkenbach.

Florida starter Bryan Ball and reliever Mike Pete combined for four outs and five earned runs, forcing McMahon to call on Falkenbach in the second. Darren O'Day gave up the homer to Gunther in the 10th.

The Gators opened the weekend leading the SEC East but finished a game behind Georgia. Florida closes the regular season with a three-game series at Tennessee starting Friday.
