Marketing
There's been periodic griping about WMU marketing, or lack thereof. So, we're watching the World Series and what kind of commercial comes on between innings? A CMU commercial for Gawd's sake. Really? CMU? No wonder we're getting our lunch handed to us when it comes to recruiting and enrollment. And honestly why anyone would choose to go to CMU is a mystery. CMU's campus is flat, ugly and filled with ugly bland buildings. Plus Mt. P is made up of 67 strip malls.

RE: Marketing
While our marketing does suck at times, I don't know how valid your point is.

The ad you saw was a locally broadcasted ad. Heck, I didn't even get it here in Kzoo on DirectTV.

WMU is in the middle of a fairly strong television advertisement program including both local and national broadcasting with the "Go West" spots.

Great point BC. We lack sometimes in our marketing for sure, age old problem.

RE: Marketing
Not defending it (I agree), but I am guessing that we do a lot of our marketing outside of Kalamazoo County in order to attract outsiders to come here. Detroit, Lansing, Grand Rapids, Chicago... just a guess.

Heard WMU's current athletic marketing person Elaine is leaving and heading to Buffalo.

Like their football recruit said, "I visited and dang, there's a lot of grass up there!"

RE: Marketing
Those Go West commercials are TERRIBLE!!! Why would that inspire someone to go to WMU?

Hearing the 1812 Overture with clips of random stuff just doesn't do much for me. But that's just my opinion.

I've haven't seen any WMU TV commercials in the Detroit market. They do have highway billboards.

RE: Marketing
Thanks for posting those videos - I saw the first one when it came out, but hadn't seen the newer two until now.

Anyone notice that the football clips must be a couple years old? 05-mafia

I've been to about 200 campuses over the years. The two ugliest campuses are CMU and Urbana University in Ohio. Either one could be the setting for some depressing movie about existentialism, the apocalypse, or the looming depression. Ugh.

They run the WMU spot almost every night during the 6 and 11 o'clock news on WWMT. For a 30 second spot I think it gets your attention.

They are primarily targeting the channels that perspective students are watching. This is the first time WMU has ran national ads. From what I remember about the presentation that was given in the WSA, the ads are being shown on several national networks including Comedy Central as well as locally.

TV ads more than likely are yesterday's news. Under 18 crowd does not watch TV. Also the demographic for baseball is plus 50.

I loved how the front of the hockey program last night said we were playing Bowling Green at University Arena. Well done WMU.

I saw that. There's always some sort of error in the programs. Sometimes, on the player rosters, they mix up the Year and Weight. They put in their weights under their Year and their year under the Weights.
