PSU presidential search
Mark Emmert
Gordon Gee
Nancy Zimpher
WTF
Penn State trustee Anthony Lubrano, who has joined the family of the late Joe Paterno in a court battle against the NCAA seeking to have the sanctions lifted, didn’t mince words in expressing his thoughts about the possibility of Penn State’s next president having the last name of Emmert.
“When donkeys fly,” Lubrano said, adding, “Over my dead body.”

Word is, it's in-house. And, honestly, it should be someone who has been there. Even if Spanier deserves a special seat in the hot place, academically, they were doing good things.
The Board, on the other hand...please, resign. Those satellite campuses are such sad excuses for institutions...

RE: PSU presidential search
Lubrano is the type of board member who would have rolled over for Paterno prior to November 2011.

Someone who has been part of the Penn State "bunker mentality" for the past few years or longer might not be the right answer, and it might not be a good sign if their powers-that-be only want to listen to other Penn State loyalists.

Not up to speed with PSU, but my money is on them hiring a cult member.

They need new folks from outside any ring attached to the school in any way for the last 40 years.

Absolutely should not be in house. It should be someone from the outside that can come in and root out the incestuous culture and Lubrano whack jobs that got them into this horrific mess in the first place. An in-house hire would be a complete and utter fail, and signal a revolting adherence to the status quo for the worst of what has and is going on there.

It's not an enviable position either way, really. Any decision is going to anger and alienate certain groups. Do you think Rodney Erickson exemplifies that bunker mentality?
I honestly don't know how well others in Penn State's administration took to Spanier. Faculty weren't thrilled with the guy (story of the year, right there), and while Main Campus was able to benefit over the years during his time, it wasn't all his work.
My time as a student, I remember the guy for running ads in the Daily Collegian trying to stir the pot over why the poor guy had to increase our tuition, tossing the state under the bus. Or finding ways to encourage faculty to seek grants, then, if successful, getting susbstancial cuts back into the endowment to the detriment of what the grant was supposed to fund. He was a big-picture guy, which was why I think he had some influential friends in politics, but his day-to-day manner...he was scum. You didn't need a scandal to expose him on that front.
