Shields did it at ASU one year as well. His team went on like a 15 point run after it happened.

I find it funny that GSU is griping about their place and preseason teams when UTA has been shown little respect in everything but cross country. 5th in preseason volleyball with no preseason picks (currently a game out of second). 10th in women's basketball and only team with no preseason all-conference players. 7th in men's basketball with one third teamer.

However, I reflect our basketball coaches attitude, the respect has to be earned. Last year, the WAC picked us sixth and we finished fourth and made it to the conference tourney championship game.

We have played defense well and it is a coaching decision. The new rule about hand-checking will cause our stats to not look quite as good overall, but as long as it is applied to everyone, I suspect we will still play D at the upper end of the conference. In the end (or beginning) the preseason poll and preseason all-conference teams are nothing more than a peeing match that means little.

My only gripe is that it just doesn't make sense for GSU to be fourth when ESPN, NBC Sports, USA Today, and CBS ALL picked us to be first in the SBC.

If you ask most Sun Belt coaches they will tell you they don't value the opinions of the ESPN's of the world because most have never actually seen the league in person.

We always do our own thing when it comes to polls. In recent years both FIU and UNT have been picked to have good seasons, only to fall flat. Georgia State will be fighting to overcome the whole star recruit curse.

The problem with those places is they see how many returners you have, look at your record, see you have a Kentucky transfer and assume you must be awesome.

In the end, preseason predictions are worth the paper they are printed on.

It must be in the water out there in Ga. GaSo in football were the self anointed kings of the Belt and now GSU in basketball. Lol

The one thing that is in the water in Ga that I am sure all the Georgia people can attest to are pesky gnats. They are relentless in letting you know they are there...buzzing around your face and head non-stop. But reality is....they couldn't hurt a fly. They swarm around, but aren't really a threat.

You've must of spent all your Georgia time in Statesboro. I rarely see gnats in Atlanta.
