I also think this is misguided, because it assumes that when Bryant and St. John are gone the problems will magically be resolved, but if you think that is true you are pretty naive.

No, I don't believe that. What I believe is that we know we'll be screwed by this leadership, so our next hope is in the hands of the next bunch.

Well, it's not, since my money is involved.

Well, so is mine, so there you go.

Which is why I never say that people who think we should bounce around the bottom forever should shut up, which is the response I constantly get. I may think you're wrong, but you should be able to say whatever you believe.

Know why you get told to shut up?

Look at your audience: Blazer sports fans. Most of us live in/around Birmingham, and hear the same talk you do, and don't enjoy it any more than you do.

We have exactly one sanctuary from that kind of talk, and it is here.

RE: UAB vs UTSA game thread
the argument of shut up dont hold water because if we start winning and bring peoples the bot will said that you dont need an ocs because you draw a good attendance at LF
UAB got the money to build an ocs and we need to do it
It always a good reason not to do it from people who dont want us to progress aka bot

It's a "no win" situation for UAB, on and off the field. When it comes to UAB football, the UA BOT is intentionally driving the wagon right off a cliff. And it's not just the UA BOT, although they are the ones making the final decisions. Most of my UAT friends don't want UAB to have an OCS either. They believe it would be a complete waste of money. They see UAB football as a joke, and a few of them graduated from UAB or have other degrees from UAB.

How can this be? Well, it's the culture of the area. The Birmingham metropolitan is dominated by UAT fans, even though Tuscaloosa is an hour away to the west. They drive the culture and it includes an anti-UAB sentiment, especially when it comes to UAB football. UAT football is their Golden Calf. They worship that Golden Calf 24/7, 365. They don't want any perceived competition to their Golden Calf, no matter how small. The UA BOT and the UAT fans see themselves as protectors of their Golden Calf. They can't understand why we don't worship like they do.

The difference maker for Tulane, regarding LSU, is they are a private institution. LSU doesn't control the purse strings for Tulane, although I'm sure there is some behind-the-scenes influence. A friend told me Tulane was on the verge of closing down their football program. The alumnae organized and generated the financial support they needed for a new stadium. The newly formed AAC noticed the positive football moves at Tulane and invited them onboard.

UAB organizes and gets the financial support for an OCS, and it gets shot down behind closed doors a week before the all-important board meeting. PBJ gives reasons for this decision, but in my mind it was all about protecting the Golden Calf in Tuscaloosa. The Birmingham population worships that same Golden Calf and PBJ, and many others, don't want to lose that loyalty and money. They will protect the Golden Calf at all costs.

Over the past ten years there hasn't been much of a difference between UAB football and Tulane football, including attendance. Both programs have struggled big time. Well, there is a huge difference between the programs now. Why? One has support and the other doesn't.

College athletics have become an arms race for facilities to get the best recruits possible. UAB's football facilities are not up to the standards necessary to compete. Look at the massive improvement in UAB's softball program with the new facilities. The previous softball field was an embarrassment. How do you even justify fielding a softball team under those conditions?

UAB's football facilities are an embarrassment as well. How do you compete under those circumstances?

They see UAB football as a joke, and a few of them graduated from UAB or have other degrees from UAB. some of my fellow work associates at UAB feel the same way, & that to me is disturbing.

How can this be? Well, it's the culture of the area. Definitely!!! The Birmingham metropolitan is dominated by UAT fans, even though Tuscaloosa is an hour away to the west"Dominated" to the point of near-brainwashed. They can't understand why we don't worship like they do& they never will. Most of our fans will never bow down to their ignorance and tyranny. Unfortunately, many in this area have, including, IMO, those in position of leadership in this city.

PBJ gives reasons for this decision, but in my mind it was all about protecting the Golden Calf in Tuscaloosa. The Birmingham population to include, IMO, the Mayor of Birmingham worships that same Golden Calf and PBJ, and many others, don't want to lose that loyalty and money. They will protect the Golden Calf at all costs. When Bell pretty much came to "junior's" defense on "The Zone" last March, well, for me, that was my, pardon the expression, "red flag."

Over the past ten years there hasn't been much of a difference between UAB football and Tulane football, including attendance. Both programs have struggled big time. Well, there is a huge difference between the programs now. Why? One has support and the other doesn't.[/b][/i]What good is being part of a system, when the system clearly is not in support of you?

College athletics has become an arms race for facilities to get the best recruits possible
And UAB is losing that race badly. UAB's football facilities are not up to the standards necessary to competeNot Even Close! There are high schools in the city (Parker, for example), that have better football facilities than UAB. Look at the massive improvement in UAB's softball program with the new facilitiesYES!. The previous softball field was an embarrassmentGreen Springs was and still is a complete joke!!!. How do you even justify fielding a softball team under those conditions?

UAB's football facilities are an embarrassment as well. How do you compete under those circumstances?
That! Is the question...Great post, by the way.
