First Lady Michelle Obama’s Princeton classmate is a top executive at the company that earned the contract to build the failed Obamacare website.

Toni Townes-Whitley, Princeton class of ’85, is senior vice president at CGI Federal, which earned the no-bid contract to build the $678 million Obamacare enrollment website at Healthcare.gov. CGI Federal is the U.S. arm of a Canadian company.

Townes-Whitley and her Princeton classmate Michelle Obama are both members of the Association of Black Princeton Alumni.

Toni Townes ’85 is a onetime policy analyst with the General Accounting Office and previously served in the Peace Corps in Gabon, West Africa. Her decision to return to work, as an African-American woman, after six years of raising kids was applauded by a Princeton alumni publication in 1998

And this is a surprise because....

Many, if not most, of the federal grants going to "green" companies have direct or indirect connections to the White House.

People like Tom Steyer, Elon Musk and Vinod Khosla are all getting rich off government grants. And then there's Algore.

If Obama had a son, that son would look like a Government employee.

There was a thread last week talking about CGI being a main ACA website contractor and I posted there had to be nepotism connection for them to have been tapped for the ACA website. Thanks for finding it.

To be fair, the fact that the owner of the company knows the first lady doesn't bother me. That's what networking and connections are used for.. rightly or wrongly.

IF it were a non-bidding contract then I'd have some issues.

The incompetence of the company as a whole... that i Have issues with

The fact that we paid them as much as we did for a failure of a website (and I don't care if it was 300M or 600M... hey, we didn't overspend by 590Million dollars.. we only over spent by 290 million, so we saved you money!), that I have issues with.

Now if the company was totally incompetent at the job and the White House _knew_ it before hiring them, then I'd have issues.

They were incompetent, Ontario fired them when they could not make a website for them.

Which is why I do have issues with the company, Smn.. they were shown to be a failure at this job before they took the job.

That's why I made sure to put that note in there :)

My understanding is that it was a sole-source (unbid) contract. I can't confirm or deny that from anything I can find, so if someone knows for sure I would appreciate clarification.

As for being incompetent, they were fired by the Canadian government for failing to produce. Whether it was known at the time we hired them would depend on timelines, and again I'm not certain what the facts are there.

Anybody with better facts, please feel free to correct me. I would like to know whether what I've heard is true or not.

I don't have a problem with Michelle's classmate or Valerie Jarrett's daughter working there either really. I understand that networking brings in work to businesses. But it wasn't competitively bid and the work was incompetent which makes this wreak of nepotism.
