Great News for Coach Holgorsen
NCAA considering more FOOD for players

Quote:— Allow schools to give unlimited snacks and additional meals to student-athletes, outside of what they receive through their traditional scholarship. The first proposal would allow schools to provide meals in conjunction with practice during the playing season and other noncompetitive events. Another similar proposal would allow schools to provide meals "incidental with participation" both in and out of season.

For athletic departments with good nutrition programs in place, this could help cut down on injuries and cramps during the season when student-athletes have nutritional support year round.

Coach Holgs is gonna have to worry about feeding himself if he doesn't get his head out of his ass. His seat is getting hotter by the week. If we keep losing he may not even get next year to right the ship

The only people who think Holgorsen's seat is hot are a bunch of morons on BlueGoldNews.com, and people who believe their rhetoric. Nobody in any position to make some serious heat are putting much pressure on him. Of the players Stew left him, there are very few indeed that have played any serious time on the field. All our best players have come in the last couple of seasons. Give Holgorsen time enough to field a team full of players he's recruited - and taught how to play his system - and WVU will be just fine...

But Holgorsen was put in an untenable situation. First he was brought in as a coach in waiting, which went out the window when Stew tried to undermine that. Then he was unable to bring in his own defensive staff, and had to keep Casteel and crew around, who promptly bailed on him to rejoin RR in Arizona (RR's defense sucks too btw). He was also left with almost no talent capable of playing in the B12, and has been working steadily to fix that...

Holgorsen has been working on a bunch of issues, while dealing with a lack of talent on the field. He's also had massive turnover of his assistant coaches, all while learning how to be a head coach. Give him a little bit of continuity and he just might surprise the hell out of people...

But there are always the Negative Nancys out there who think they are experts, and given reign they would destroy the teams they love. IMO most of the so-called experts should shut the hell up. Let the people that actually know the score make the calls...

Bit I know you are a bit of a Pollyanna and thats fine and dandy but this team isn't getting better. You at least want to see a team progress week by week and we aren't doing that. You can make all the excuses for the guy in the world but the bottom line is he is in charge of the program and he is the guy who must be held accountable.

1.He completely failed to develop or recruit a QB. Its week 8 and we still don't have an established starter who can finish a game.

We have one QB coming in next year who surely won't be ready to start against Bama. He was supposed to be here in the spring but wasn't able to graduate early. Virtually no viable recruit to go after this late in the game to give us QB help.

2.Dana is supposed to be an offensive genius but we have trouble stringing first downs together and forget about scoring touchdowns. 94th in scoring offense so far this season.

Offensive line is one of the worst i've ever seen when it comes to run blocking.

3. When he was allowed to pick his defensive coaches we ended up with the worst defense in Mountaineer history. Our defense is only slightly better this year than last. Finished last season ranked 108 in total defense and currently we are 102.

4. Special teams are atrocious.

5. Mind boggling time management and questionable 4th down calls.

6. complete collapse last year with 3 NFL draft picks at the skill positions

I strongly disagree with your statement that only message board fanatics are calling for his head, in fact I would say its becoming the majority of WVU fans that are turning on him. Sometimes you just have to remove the blinders and admit we may have made a bad hire.

He is going to get next year regardless unless we would happen to lose out. I personally don't see how next season will be better considering we will probably start off 1-3 OOC and still not have a competent QB.

RE: Great News for Coach Holgorsen
WVU's President is fully backing him, as is Ken Kendricks, our biggest booster. What the fans think is irrelevant, as long as those guys still believe in him. Those 2 are the main decision makers, and if Luck goes to Texas they'll be the only ones with any say. A new AD will need to adjust to the job before he's allowed much input...

Perhaps. But Bobby Petrino left Kragthorpe with a fully stocked roster, which he was unable to use. Stew left WVU with almost nothing outside of the Big 3...

Big difference there...

Ken Kendricks?!?!?! That guy doesn't have nearly the pull you think he does.

Do you not remember his hissy fits after RR left and Stew was hired? Threatened to pull all of his donations because he didn't get enough say in the process. That guy is a joke and one of the least respected major boosters we have. If Ken Kendricks has his way Rod will be back by next year if he has the sway you think he does. He is a MAJOR RR supporter.

Rodriguez isn't coming back. He'll be at Arizona until he retires or gets fired...

WVU just got crushed by a team that was 2-4, 0-3 in the Big 12 before their game.

The clock is ticking on that ... 07-coffee3

Wow! Wonder if Texas is telling Luck the same thing?

Bit I don't know who you talk to but I'm hearing the exact opposite. RR is already starting to whisper things to the right people. Hell he did an interview last week saying he was sorry about how things went at WVU when he left and he regretted it. If Ken Kendrick has the sway you think he does then RR will be back after next season...

Yes, it was a jab at Holgorsen in general (relevant to the ECU/Marshall statement he made) but not the WVU fanbase, but the article is still relevant to all other schools in D1, so no I don't think it should have been moved here. I think the "College Sports" and Realignment page was appropriate. I couldn't pass up the opportunity on Holgs though.............
