Sounds good to me. I like the idea of many different bowls, and varying vacation opportunities.

Plus I'd be happy never to return to Alabama.

Five primaries and trading Detroit for a warmer destination seems like an upgrade. The only down I see is 2017 with three Sun Belt pairings. Any guesses on the mystery last bowl tie-in? As it stands 2017 and 2019 are only showing four.

Steinbrecher was quoted as saying there will be years where we play more than one Sun Belt teams in bowls and others we play more than one Mountain West Conference teams in bowls.

Las Vegas would make sense then... Would be like the old bowl we had vs the Big West during the early 90's

Las Vegas would be a nice way to round out our bowls. Sin City, the Bahamas, and Miami are all great winter destinations for midwestern/northeastern schools in December, certainly beats Detroit.

If we couldn't get Vegas or a bowl in Texas, I wouldn't mind seeing a somewhat local bowl pop up in Indy or St. Louis. They aren't destinations compared to the other cities, but having a bowl close to the core of the conference would be nice to have.

The one thing that was a big benefit of the bowl in Detroit, is that it was the only bowl that could be profitable for a MAC team outside of the rare BCS bowl.

Travel costs are simply far to great for MAC schools on these southern destination bowls, and MAC fans simply won't travel well enough to ever sell enough tickets to make it profitable for the schools. That said, for the fans who will travel, money spent to go to the Bahamas, South Florida, etc., is better than spending it to go to Mobile, Detroit, etc.

I'm not so sure that we can compare fan bases traveling to say, Mobile or Boise to what may happen regarding traveling to a warm weather destination with a beach. It may just surprise people that some may make it a Christmas vacation in Florida with a game attached at the end.

We MAC programs may not be operating in B1G type atmospheres, but we can pretend. 05-stirthepot

That might be because the MWC backs up the Boca, Miami Beach and Bahamas bowl.

Taking 2 slots from the MWC in Hawaii is more likely than Las Vegas because on the opposite side of Hawaii is CUSA/AAC. On the opposite side of Las Vegas is the PAC which is going to be coveted.

If anyone I predict BYU will play a time or two in Las Vegas. The MAC could also be backing up the Poinsettia bowl. Of all the options out west Las Vegas is the least likely for the final 2 MAC slots.

Actually Las Vegas isn't great in mid-December.

Beats Detroit, but doesn't beat Oxford or Athens by much if it isn't windy.

Toss in some wind and 56/38 isn't very comfortable.

I would avoid Vegas in December, January and February.

March for March Madness tends to be nice. 03-cloud9

I have attended more than a dozen Vegas Bowls. At night it can get down to 30 degree with a strong (20-30mph) wind. However, during the day it is almost always sunny and in the mid 50's to low 60's and quite pleasant, just wear a swetshirt. This year the game is in the afternoon and I am going again.

Here is the info on the Vegas (and other) bowls.

http://mattsarzsports.com/Schedule/Weekl...otball2013

Indeed the time slot will be early afternoon Vegas time.

I love Vegas (I went Labor Day week) and would love to go for the New Year's bowl season, but as Dick and I have been saying, one is at the mercy of the winds and maybe cool temps.

Winds are ALWAYS the will card in Vegas; one never knows when very strong winds will come blowing through.

If the temps are warm and sunny, no one minds the winds, but in mid-Dec., dark, cool and windy isn't funny (if the game were a late afternoon or evening game), hell one could go to a MAC November weeknight game for 'that experience'.

Las Vegas, despite its somewhat chilly weather, still is Vegas. It's obviously a fun city with no shortage of entertainment options, and that's what makes it most appealing for fans and players alike. The new stadium on the drawing board should help the bowl elevate its status if it comes to fruition.
