The only logic I can see is that the MAC doesn't want the best teams from the East playing the best teams from the West to avoid potential end-of-season carnage.

The last East team NIU played during the regular season that ended up with a winning record was Temple in 2010

Note that the unplanned for of Temple at the time of the admission of UMass may also have thrown scheduling rotations a bit out of balance.

One reason you see BG and Toledo pop up in "we have not played them in 'n' years" discussions is because they must use one of their cross over games against each other each year. Add in the extra east team and that screws it up even more.

Ohio's last game at Toledo was when the Bobcats blew a 28 point lead. I think we were up 35-7 in the third quarter and managed to lose in regulation 45-42 capped by fumbling a punt inside our own ten with sixteen seconds left. Ohio's Chris Garrett fumbled three returns in the second half that game. Ohio and Toledo both had seven turnovers each in that game. Horrible played game on both sides. One of the wildest games and finishes in the MAC.

Interestingly, Ohio has not played at WMU since 2008, the longest span against any MAC home opponent for WMU.

yeah i'd really like to know the logic behind the MAC scheduling decisions. or maybe that's my problem, thinking there is actual logic involved!

I wonder if Ohio is playing at EMU as a way to help their attendance as a league request.

It didn't do much for EMU to be hosting Ohio fan wise last Saturday.
