I don't think he will be. I think he is very aware of the purpose of these games. Now much of the fan base on the other hand...
Yep that is the part that worries me too ^^
I mean any fanbase gets upset when their team loses an exhibition, so that will surely happen if UC loses. I remember people being pissed when Huggs squad lost to a good Athletes in Action team.
That said... people get over Exhibition losses really quickly once the teams start winning regular season games.

Casey Shaw was a 2 time all MAC big from Toledo who played on that AIA team...I was in the UC student section and when I saw Shaw out there I knew UC was going to have a good test with a 7 Ft center who played a couple seasons in the NBA as a 14 / 15th NBA roster spot. Shaw had a 20 Pt 10 Reb game that exhibition against Max and Hicks. That AIA team was a semi professional team...

He's talking about with Athletes in Action beat the '91-'92 team in the preseason. I believe Lorenzo Romar was their top player then. That was when colleges could play preseason games against guys who were long out of school and former pros. AIA was always good. They'd whoop up on the college kids and then proselytize after the game, which I always thought was fun.
UC won't lose to Carleton at the Shoe. This article seems to be written every year and every year it's not a game.

You are right...I confused the games and was thinking about this game below. It is funny reading that article and remembering how much fun it was to watch Huggs during games from the student section...the students loved it! Getting a T playing against a Christian BBall team
UNLV coach Jerry Tarkanian once said after a 1977 blowout to AIA, "They beat you up in the first half, pray for you at halftime, then beat you up in the second half."

Animated Huggins draws first technical since heart attack
Associated Press
CINCINNATI -- Field Williams hit six 3-pointers and scored 24 points as No. 23 Cincinnati beat Athletes In Action 80-62 in an exhibition game Thursday night.
Bearcats coach Bob Huggins, who suffered a massive heart attack on Sept. 28, was as animated as usual and drew his first technical foul of the season. He argued a 5-second call in the opening minute, and got a technical for protesting a foul called on Cincinnati's Jason Maxiell late in the first half.
During a victory over Northern Kentucky last Saturday, Huggins also screamed at the referees and kicked the scorer's table in frustration over his team's poor play. Huggins has insisted that his courtside demeanor won't change as he recovers from the heart attack.
Williams sank five 3-pointers in the first half, when he scored 21 of Cincinnati's 39 points. Williams, a 3-point specialist, made five of his six shots in the half, which ended with the Bearcats ahead 39-33.
Athletes in Action, which has lost all of its nine games, cut the lead to four points before Cincinnati pulled away with a 14-point run.
Cincinnati, which opens the regular season Nov. 23 against Tennessee Tech, again had trouble on the front line. Six-foot-11 center Casey Shaw led Athletes in Action with 20 points, and the Bearcats were outrebounded 39-34.

How about a more recent reference...didn't Ohio State lose to Findlay a few years ago? Seriously after two weeks everyone forgets.

Didn't remember that one. A tech against a Christian team in the first half of the second preseason game following a massive heart attack. God love him. Anyone know if WVU is going to be OK this year?

Syracuse lost to a D2 team a few years ago and went on to be #1 in the country for much of the season.

They are going to be awful. I believe they currently have 8 scholarship players and are hoping a 9th gets cleared before the season begins.

Anyway, the four games are going to be a test. The two exhibitions are against schools that usually dominate their level of competition, Carleton and Bellarmine. Those teams will force UC to guard, run offense, and play smart even though the Bearcats should have superior athletes. Our home opener is against NC Central, a team that was 15-1 and their league last season and once again is suppose to compete for their league title, game two is NC State.
I like getting this team on our schedule for a exhibition. You can get a really tough game and be free to substitute and test rotations, without fear for the outcome.
I hope no one is surprised if we lose. Because seriously that is the most likely outcome. This will be Carleton's 12th GAME!! Very tough to go up against a good, disciplined team that has played a tough schedule already and is close to mid-season form.
heck, I remember our Final Four team being spanked by ATHLETES IN ACTION in the preseason exhibition game. AIA was coached by player/coach Lorenzo Romar and they seemed to hit everything from beyond the 3. Of course, AD Jackson was starting then and Nicky VanExel rode the pine early that season. The rest is History.
I like some tough exhibition games played where it makes our players stand up and have to play hard. Hopefully, we play better than some of the fans indicate of our team this early and it becomes a good season for our young team.

RE: Bearcats will be tested in exhibition
I remember my jr year...UC had Fortson, Long, Burton, Flint, Gregor, etc. That team ended up going to the elite 8 but we lost to Athletes in Action (like the final four team did). Scott Highmark was on AIA, formerly of SLU and he LIT US UP.

Scott Highmark was a very good basketball player and SLU had another guard that year that was just as good as a 3-point shooter. Interesting that Lorenzo Romar wound up coaching at SLU after Charlie Spoonhour, Huggs' best friend in basketball coaching circles.

Erwin Claggett is the guy you are thinking of. He could play. That was a tough SLU team.

Any team ever coached by Charlie Spoonhour was a tough team and would really get after you. Charlie was just as tough as Huggs, just didn't have all the players Huggs did.

Justin Jackson getting some love
http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/jeff-goo...st?id=2086
Quote:3. Justin Jackson, F, Cincinnati Bearcats
Senior, 6-8, 230
Jackson was a role player and energy defender a season ago, averaging 19 minutes and only 3.8 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. He scored in double figures only once last season, but Bearcats coach Mick Cronin said "Jackson will be a walking double-double this year."
In particular, Jackson will be counted on for more offense, and he has the talent to deliver results. Jackson will get much of the playing time left by the departure of Cheikh Mboji.

RE: Bearcats will be tested in exhibition
That SLU team also had Donny Dobbs…he was like a 6'4 pf who averaged 8 or 9 rebounds a game…kid was unreal at rebounding for his size. Dobbs, Clagget, Highmark….those were the three that carried that SLU team. And of course Spoonhour was a GREAT coach…his teams at SW MO St (now Mo. St) were incredibly tough on defense and would just ground it out with solid passing, low turnovers, good fundamentals etc. He took Spponball to SLU and the city loved him.
