Rutgers, Cal, and our good buddies on the other side of the state, all have female AD's, among others.

Are you really suggesting she isn't fit for the job because of her gender? Come on.

Female ADs have been in vogue for some time.
Herrmann is an absolute FIASCO of a hire at Rutgers! She harrassed her players while volleyball coach at Tennessee and many would like to see her removed from her AD position!!!! Bad example.

I remember that there was some controversy whe she was hired.

That said, are the natives restless in Jersey? Or is that an extrapolation??

Good info.

Some regents wanted English gone last year but Stapleton purportly raised a stink about that so it didn't happen. Also some regents were not happy about the Glenn Bryant situation ie being on the team after the domestic related incident again Stapleton was purportly Bryant's biggest supporter.

Noooo. They want her out. Chris Christie was asked to get involved and he refused. I believe ESPN outside the Lines had a story on the situation, it is an awful situation. She harrassed her players and an assistant coach and than lied about the whole thing. Read the report on her, it is unbelievable. If I was a Rutgers alum, I would boycott until she was removed.

No I am not suggesting that. I am simply asking the question because I have NEVER heard of a successful athletic department being run by a woman. If I am missing one, let me know. I am so sick of your holier than thou attitude, especially since you are rarely correct on most of your awesome observations. I obviously hit a sore spot with you. Btw, I also press mute when Pam Ward announces football games on TV, if you're wondering.

Lol you got it Bob. Pam Ward is awful, but because she is uninformed. Not because she is a woman. Doris Burke is fantastic with basketball commentary. Sex has literally nothing to do with it.

Cal doesn't have a successful athletic department? Neither does NC State?

Please tell me what is "holier than thou" about questioning blatant sexism? Don't say that wasn't what you were implying either, because it clearly was.

I'm familiar with what you have posted. She was a controversial hire.

That said, ONCE she was on board, what is the 'public opinion' on the ground in Jersey?

There is a difference between saying someone is a controversial hire and that once on board he/she is doing a bad job. Those are two independent statements which should be separated by a period (.).

Some popular hires turn out to be bad hires. Some unpopular hires turn out to be good hires.

That said, I really could care less whom Rutgers hired.

Thanks for the info.

You have confirmed my 'view from 30,000 feet':

At EMU, decisions to fire a HC in football involve the AD, university president and any regents who are willing to invest some 'political capital' in it.

No, it really wasn't. That fact that she also has ties to that paragon of virtue, THE Ohio State University sucks too.

With Cal and NC State as your best examples, I am not feeling any better about the situation! These are free flowing debates and people shouldn't have to worry about the PC police when it is not warranted.

There's where we differ because I do CARE when coaches abuse student athletes and then get hired as athletic directors, in the case of Julie Herrmann. I think we all NEED to care.

Well, Cal and NC State are a few of the only examples right now. Not many female ADs out there, but both of those are good athletic programs. I'm pretty sure all of us here would kill to have EMU on par with Cal's level of athletic relevance, so I don't really see your point.

RE: BACK TO BOWEN CANCELLED
I'm thinking this thread is getting pretty O/T.

Dr. Martin hired an AD, not a woman.

EMU isn't into hiring athletic personnel on the basis of race, gender, etc.

Lyke has a very substantial resume.

Gee, I remember when folks here were noting that we had an African-American AD, Football HC, both basketball HCs, etc.

EMU posters know how to complain about the results of a coin toss. 03-lmfao

Huge blunder. Just out of curiosity, how many other DI schools have a female AD? Not sure how I feel about this (well actually I do, but I'm not saying).
We've had a female AD before Carol Huston right after Wisner.

Carl, She was interim. While she was at EMU for the better part of two years, doesn't "count". But I get what you mean.

Others, all in all, it really shouldn't matter if male or female. Dr. Martin is (obviously) a woman, so is she not fit to make any decision, such has hire even a male AD? Yeeeesh, please realize the calendar says 2013 and join us.

In a previous post I made a mistake about the newspaper containing the article about Regent Stapleton - it's the Michigan Citizen. The page is no longer available however I found the text by reporter Diane Buckowski: it's
here under DPS CEO hides fraud secret.
