I'm just curious though. Say LSU or Auburn beats Alabama, they go with one loss and get beat. Does Missouri still move up enough to play for a title? Or do they play Auburn, and is THAT a solid enough win to move into the national contender's spot?

I before would have said Missouri would be in regardless. But now, I'm not so sure. I am positive Missouri would be over Ohio St, but just not vs Florida St. Though FSU may have to be up a good bit in the polls to balance out the computers which woudl be in favor of Missouri.

RE: Destiny...
Missouri is already #3 in the computers. If they beat South Carolina, Texas A&M and then Alabama on the way to 13-0, they'd be #1 in the computers.
If Florida State and Oregon are also both undefeated, the computer order would likely be Missouri-Oregon-Florida State.
Mizzou might be at #3 in the polls (maybe even #4, but I think they could jump Ohio St. even if the Buckeyes were undefeated) and the question would be whether they are a close-enough #3 in the polls for the computers to put them in the BCS top 2.

FSU is #1 in the computer polls. That's how they passed Oregon.

RE: Destiny...
FSU won't be #1 in the computers after their remaining schedule. The avg team they play the rest of the way is cpu ranked 60.79 I believe. Missouri has 5 games left, only 1 with a losing team- Kentucky. Other 4 are South Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi, and A&M. oh, and a CCG with Alabama presumably. They should be #1 in the computers with no issues at all.

If an undefeated Missouri beats an undefeated Alabama in the SEC title game, no way is Missouri not No. 1 by every human-controlled metric.

RE: Destiny...
I'm not as postive about the polls, but I would be about the computers. I think Missouri would be a unanimous #1 in the computers. So, assuming FSU was #2 in the polls, a big part of things would be where Oregon/FSU were in the computers. If Oregon has passed FSU in the computers(very possible)- where it was Missouri 1.00 Oregon 2.00 FSU 3.00- for FSU to be ahead of Missouri in the BCS, they would need to be 1 full poll spot ahead of Missouri in the human polls. That's not happening- that's 108 Harris votes AND 62 coaches votes. No way FSU would be that far ahead.
If it's closer between Oregon and FSU, the gap wouldn't be quite as much, but still would be quite a lot. If FSU is at 2.75, the gap would be 81 Harris votes AND 47 coaches votes. If FSU is at 2.50, the gap would be 54 Harris votes AND 31 coaches votes. Even that is quite unlikely given Missouri would have just beaten 2 time national champ undefeated Alabama.

The computers would know the Missouri has a weaker schedule (FLA, GA, SC all down) than Oregon and FSU, so they would not be a unanimous #1.

Isn't it true that if NIU and Fresno both go undefeated, only one of them gets into a BCS bowl? I wouldn't call that controlling your own destiny.

um no. All 3 of those are down but they still will wind up being top 30 teams. add to that only 1 game against a bad team in conference, Kentucky(which isn't that bad), and then A&M and Mississippi cross division, then Alabama in CCG- that's not going to hurt them at all. They will be very close to if not a unanimous #1. You can continue to be all butthurt about the SEC. That's your right as an ACC fanboy.
Missouri is already #1 in Colley, ahead of Florida St. Another one they are #2 to FSU's #1. another 3 they are #3 behind only FSU and Alabama. And, Missouri's remaining schedule with South Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi, and A&M is much harder than FSU. So, yes, I would expect Missouri to pass FSU pretty easily even before playing Alabama in the CCG. And, that's before even saying the word Idaho.

Alabama will almost certainly be a unanimous (or close to it) No. 1 if they're undefeated heading into the SEC title game. If Mizzou wins out, they will be deep in the Top 5, likely in the 2-3 range. If Missouri then beats Alabama in the SEC title game, the preponderance of voters will vote for Missouri. Fans of Oregon and Florida State (or whoever's left that's undefeated) might not be happy about it, but it's going to be hard to justify not having Missouri No. 1 with the bona fides it will have racked up. No matter where you live.

you are right..
one thing that is interesting and could wind up deciding the spot is the Fresno game that got cancelled vs Colorado. Fresno could wind up 12-0 while NIU was 13-0.
Right now, not playing Colorado would be neutral for Fresno in the computers- Colorado is like 63.5 avg in the computers. But given that Colorado could easily lose last 6 games, could wind up helping out Fresno quite a bit- maybe even the difference between them and NIU.
