These are better than many of the things they've done. So I give them credit for a step in the right direction. I still think the "Modern Mind" campaign was the best one they've launched, and that was about a B+. I understand that these are brand campaigns trying to build awareness of the contributions to the region, and the world, and that story certainly needs to be told... especially in state. My problem is, if I'm a 15 year old kid, these pictures of old people standing still and smiling do not make me want to go to ODU. Its stuffy, boring. And the real old guy in waders looking at the ocean is sort of creepy. Is he the old man and sea? The previous idea fusion commercial with the giant group of old people shouting incoherently "Idea Fusion" was horrible. So they're getting better, but where are the students? Are they not contributing to these research projects and cutting edge solutions? You wouldnt think so by these. If our brand is a modern, cutting edge research university, the ads need to have a modern, energetic, cutting edge look to back that brand up.

Yeah, I've seen the new commercials. Soooooooooooooooooooo much better. A commercial that actually shows the campus and what we offer, and not just saying "Idea Fusion" over and over and over again. Much much better

These are much better. Now if we could just run our first ever that might highlight the student experience. That would be groundbreaking IMO.

I think the days of recruiting world class faculty through TV ads are long behind us.

This is the long version, I believe there was a 30 sec version that ran on TV. This also has a bunch of cheesy clips (I cringe when it gets to the two guys on the beach giving each other five), but the idea and approach are the only thing I've seen ODU do that actually was on target, emphasized the brand (modern, tech savvy) had some energy and was geared toward recruiting students.

This is a very good lion. I have felt for a long time that we needed to work on our lion image. We need to adopt a strong lion image and pound it into the masses.

So.....you never know who you are going to meet when you see some ODU gear.

I've been in Atlanta all day today for a meeting. This meeting only had around 20 or so people in it, so it's fairly small. I notice the lady sitting next to me has on an Old Dominion lanyard that holds her work ID badge, but I couldn't see the name on the badge. I asked her if she went to ODU, and that I went there, etc. She told me no, that her son went there. Her son...none other than Mr Taylor Heinicke. I had no idea I worked for the same company as his mom...pretty small world. Anyway, I thought it was pretty neat, and that I would share my story.

Keep spreading the brand!

ODU class 2011. I live in Charlotte NC now and wear some form of ODU gear to the gym almost every day. If I had to guess I would say that in the range of 75-100 people have said something to me about ODU. With ODU joining C-USA along with UNC Charlotte, 49er fans know us and are keeping an eye on the competition. They definitely respect our football program for starting up and they always say they hope to do what we have done in our first few years.

I was taking a leisurely stroll through Tysons Corner Mall in Fairfax County, Northern Virginia, this evening with my wife and ran across this poster on one side of a Directory marquee as we walked out of Macy's. Well done ODU, Keep Spreading the Brand!

RE: RAISE THE BAR! SPREAD THE BRAND!!
They place distance learning stuff in the metro trains in DC sometimes. I get it, but hate that it looks like we are an online for profit to the uninformed getting their first impression. If I saw the creative and the placements I would think Phoenix. This is the area we need to be drawing our largest percentage of traditional students from. Good high schools, in state, and connections to the Nova job market upon graduation. Making us look like Strayer in an ad doesn't help recruit those kids. But at least its something
