My deepest heartfelt sympathies to Mr. Reed's family -- As a father myself, I can't imagine anything more tragic.

Been through this myself. Sigh. Such a waste and so unnecessary.

My condolences to you, sir.

Same here, condolences to you and family..

Thank you. He would have been around Mr. Reed's age-19

this is miserable. my best to his family, friends and all of you on this board.

Got to feel for the team to play tomorrow.

Those who follow EMU FB closely, like us, know that Reed was one of four players from Chicago who enrolled together to study and play football at EMU.

It must be especially tough for Darius Scott who was Reed's teammate going back to high school at Simeon.

RE: We apparently have a tragedy affecting EMU
I do hope EMU comes up with some plans to memorialize him for example in the football building or within the Convo or within Rynearson.

We've had former players who have died not terribly long after leaving EMU but Demarius is the first I can remember to die while an active member of the football team.

All:

Honestly I appreciate all your thoughts and wishes, but can we get back to Mr. Reed and his family, teammates, coach English and the staff?

You're all a great group and I mean that, but I would strongly prefer we switch our focus back to Mr. Reed's circle and support them anyway we can. I can tell you from personal experience as a parent I would have been in a very dark place with out support from others.

I just hope they catch the coward that did this. Seeing the tweets from all of the players and coaches (Mike Hart's almost choked me up), Reed sounded like a great young man. Just a disgusting world we live in.

Someone suggested a moment of silence at all MAC football games this weekend.

Someone should set up a memorial fund at EMU to do exactly what you are suggesting Steve.

Couple of thoughts:

1). Tomorrow they should retire his jersey and give his jersey and the new road helmet he wore last Saturday and the helmet he was to wear tomorrow to his parents.

2). One thing to do is retire his locker. I believe that is very appropiate when an athlete dies will playing for the school.

3). They could put name on the Rynearson ring with other EMU FB players. or do a memorial near the football locker room.

4). Then they could do something a little more elaborate using a memorial fund.

I'm kind of thinking of things which were done for Thurmond Munson (NYY) when we was killed in a plane crash will playing for the Yankees.

Even though it hasn't been announced, I have reason to believe the game is still on.

I believe the players have made known their desires for tomorrow.

I really think the game should be postponed but there is no chance to make the game up. That is what is tough about football, no scheduling flexibility.

There could have been more said by the Ohio representative that wasn't put in the article. I wonder how the Eagles will decide to play or not. Will the coaches leave it up to the players to decide?

Out of respect to Reed, his family, and the team I'm going to refrain from posting anything critical of the EMU football program for the time being. Hope others do the same.

Agree, 100%.

Now is the time to rally around the entire football program.

I wish I were in Michigan and could come to the game.

I hope all of our EMU fans who can make it tomorrow, attend and give the team a big standing ovation as they come onto the field.

Amazing, but I remember back in 1997 when we were scheduled to play UofM in hoops.

One member of the UofM wrestling program died after a workout and they cancelled the basketball game and later rescheduled it (EMU won, too!!).

This is so much more. This is Benz' receiver. Probably the roommate of a player or players. High school teammate of Darius Scott.

If I can remember back to late January 2011, one of the Chicago players committed on a Thursday and the other three committed on Friday.

I believe the Simeon players had a press conference which was covered by 'EdgyTim' the ace Illinois h.s. football recruiting guru. Chris Bryant committed to UofM and Reed and Scott committed to EMU.
