At least Bronson Hill is still a stud. Big day for him.

EMU please keep the ball on the ground...
No more passing.
Maybe a double screen the Ohio defense is chasing everything.

Sigh, I guess I'm reduced to rooting for one more big Bronson Hill run to get over 300 yards. Defense still non existent.

I saw some things I liked out of Roback. He got rid of the ball when he needed to, avoided getting sacked, and completed a few under pressure. Start him at this point. Why not?

RE: EMU VS Ohio Game Day Comments
Dear Friends,
Being at the game, and specifically watching both the offense and defensive line play, I can tell the naysayers of the offensive line you are incorrect. I would say the offensive line probably made 85% or more of their blocking schemes. The defensive line is still a work in progress. Some defensive players are going to be good players in the future. Pipkins, O'Connor, and Steals showed occasional standout plays, but overall still need work. The biggest problem with the defensive front is not putting any pressure on the passer. I only saw one blitz by the linebackers, and as far as I'm concerned they should have tried it much more. When the quarterback has all day to throw, he is going to connect.
Lastly, this is a game that Eastern could have won. To me, the turning point was the Benz interception in the end zone when Eastern was driving for the go ahead touchdown. He totally missed a receiver wide open in the corner of the end zone, and threw into coverage for the interception. This is where I would agree with Frank Anderson that Roback should start the next game. It was evident that Benz locks on to one receiver and throws it to that receiver whether he is open or not. Ohio scored on the very next play, so, that was a 14 point turnaround in their favor. That seemed to take the wind out of the Eastern sails, and ended in the usual blow-out.

That was huge. Eastern had put together a 99 yard scoring drive to tie the score. Then a defensive stop followed by the O moving the ball inside the ten. The Benz rolls out and makes a very poor decision and the ball is picked off in the end zone. The next play was an 80 yard TD pass for OU. Football doesn't change that quickly very often.

This had to have been a very difficult game emotionally for EMU. Their teammate and friend had just died. Add to that the woes of a disappointing season and they have a solid reason to be thinking of things other than football. I think they held together pretty well and made a good effort. That's more important than the score.

RE: EMU VS Ohio Game Day Comments
I finally made it home at about midnight and must say the trip was much better coming home then driving to the game with my daughter and her friends in the truck.. It allow us to talk about family, friends, life and people.. It was well spent time..
I've only been to EMU 2 times before and must say it a great campus and the people in the town was wonderful. We ate at a place called Tower Inns and the food was great and the prices were very reasonable. The people in the place talked about the game and about the EMU player Reed. People said his father & bothers came down and spoke with the players and administration and it was a touching moment inside the locker-room.. (I could only imagine the mood).
My daughter did cried because of the game outcome but was happy to wear their white outfit and sit in the student section of the stadium..
They had the game playing on the scoreboard live, including replays. Is this for every fb game because I don't recall seeing this before. The ticket prices were low, the food was okay, the people inside was great, fans was really into the game and the players were fired up.. I hated that I missed the 1st half but glad to make the 2nd half.. I started thinking maybe that I was the good luck rabbit-foot for the team when we almost scored the TD before the interception. I would had come back each week to watch them (I swear I would had).
I didn't realize how big EMU players are WOW!!!
I love the small town feel and smiles that everyone had..
EMU is a great place to attend college from the little that I seen.. I didn't go into other campus area to checkout the off-campus area because the weather sucked..
I want to thank Ypsilanti for being so friendly and I will be going back again, maybe for basketball.. People told me about a place called "Bomber" but they said to only go there if you are really hungry... I may try it next time..
Those of you who attend EMU, I now see why you have so much passion for your school and the Eagle football program.
P.S.
I must say that Ypsilanti is so small that if you are not careful, you will miss it.. Sorry for the dig guys (smile)..

In my opinion Ypsi food/bars > ann arbor. Sure they have the fancy restaurants, but for it's size Ypsi has some great places. Definitely try the Wurstbar next time you are in town. Awesome food and great drinks (probably my favorite place in the area).

I'm glad you made it Pudge. Come back when you can.
EMU can be a great place to watch college football, but yesterday wasn't one of the best. Band Day, when many HS bands are invited to play, used to be a lot larger. The weather was poor, the team is underperforming and people have turned on English.
Even with all this, I was surprised that the players didn't get more support by attendance given the death of their teammate.
If you missed halftime they brought out all the athletic teams that were not competing. I think everyone was there except M&W Cross Country, 19 of 21 teams. I think that's something we can be proud of even if we can't send some of that money to football.

If I were English, I'd let Shelby at least start or take a series or two to start the game. Who takes Reed's starting slot here out? Quincy Jones?
I might let Darius Scott, Reed's h.s. teammate, be an honorary co-captain today. Those two committed to EMU the same day, opted to ask for their h.s. numbers, etc.
I wonder if Reed's parents will go to mid-field for the coin toss?
I guess we need a punt returner. Who?
Otherwise, I have NO (!!) idea how the game will play out. What will be the mindset of EMU? Ohio?
Why the hell would his parents even be at the game? Their son just died. Good Lord, Steve, use common sense. I could see this at the next home game, but not the day after his death.
Sir, I'll let YOU answer your own question.
"Reed was a son of Chicago, but he had clearly been adopted by Ypsilanti. Carl Reed, the slain athlete's father, visited the Eagles' dressing room Saturday and accepted condolences from players and coaches. Some Eastern Michigan athletes struggled to hold back tears during a pregame moment of silence.
"It was emotional to be in the locker room … to see his locker," Reed said. "Everyone came up and gave me hugs and handshakes."
