2013-14 A-Sun Basketball
They already moved our board to the SoCon BBS... but I'm still excited for Mercer's final season in the A-Sun. There's nothing I want more than wins over FGCU and Kennesaw on the way out.

It will be interesting to see how both of those teams perform. FGCU trying to maintain a high level of play, and Kennesaw trying to make big recruits pay off.

I almost forgot, I want everyone to beat Lipscomb. Especially Stetson.

Beating FGCU may have just gotten easier. Fr. PF Jordan Neff has left FGCU for Gordon St. Reportedly homesick. Dunk City is down to 9 scholarship players for 2013-14.

FGCU was considering redshirting Neff before he decided to go back home.

Perhaps Dooley feels like he can easily win the ASC with 9 'ship players then. Good for him.

I dunno so much if it's Dooley thinking he can win with 9, but more that he's going all in on next season.

Chase Fieler is the only senior on the roster, with the rest of the core(Comer, Thompson, McKnight) as juniors. Plus he went after all those transfer guys who are sitting out the year.

I'm not thrilled about the idea, but that's the only rational explanation I can think of.

Course, now the season opener is gonna be even thinner. McKnight's suspended for six games, Hovey's out with a stress fracture, and Thompson sprained his ankle.

Gonna need a lot of good luck to repeat, I get a feeling.

No wins for the A-Sun on day 1. Mercer could have beat Texas. Northern Kentucky surprisingly should have beat Purdue (up 4 with under a minute to play). Lipscomb competed with Belmont. North Florida also gave Florida a fight. FGCU is getting their ass kicked by 30 at the moment.

RE: 2013-14 A-Sun Basketball
Mercer really blew it against Texas. I only saw the second half because I was wrestling with the LHN media player, and they looked good in stretches, but they didn't play as well as they could have and probably should have for the entire game. I know this is backhanded praise, but Mercer is good enough to beat mediocre teams like Texas on the road, and they should win those games.

Nebraska appears to be a little better than mediocre, but FGCU was just pasted.

Nice win for USC Upstate, but VA Tech is pretty bad this year. Still, it's always nice to beat a brand name team.

The ASun is traditionally a "one bid league," but that is not a designation that is handed down before the season even starts. My thinking is that with what Mercer, Upstate and FGCU had coming back, they had a lot of winnable out of conference games, and if they took care of business then it wouldn't necessarily be a one-bid league, and if a team lost in the conference tournament it wouldn't necessarily jack up their entire season.

It's just one weekend and the season is far from over, but MAN there were some missed opportunities.
