ETSU Rebranding
I have posted some of this info in other threads, but I thought I'd put all of that here too. I got to see the new logo concepts for the university today (both academic and athletics).

1.) Academics: They are looking updating the ETSU with the mountains in the background, the new one is primarily blue with a more modern version of the mountains in the background with gold as an accent along the peaks. It looks more contemporary. The other academic logo they are looking at is a blue banner with the bell tower on it in gold. While that may sound boring, I was actually pleasantly surprised with how good it looked.

2.) Athletics: There is only one new Bucky concept. The new Bucky is similar to the current Bucky except he looks more human. Also, there is no light blue or black whatsoever on it. I did confirm that they are going to be sticking with the blue and gold colors. He also actually has a normal looking goatee and not the Klingon/Worf looking one. The hat is a little more raised, but it is very similar to the one he is wearing now. I told them to please bring back Pepper the Parrott to compliment Bucky on the sidelines, also told them to find the old ship :)

3.) Uniforms: Apparently since we are moving to the SoCon they have opened up the bidding process for who will make the athletics new unis. Under Armour, Nike, Adidas, and Russell Athletics are all in the mix I believe.

4.) Some of the women's sports being considered with the addition of football are women's lacrosse, bowling, and others but I'm not sure what they are. They said they are looking at like 5 different female sports.

5.) ETSU Football: They will be playing in the Pioneer League, likely in 2015, and all recruits will have 5 years of eligibility because they will all be red shirted their first year.

The new logos should roll out sometime early next year (possibly March). I don't have pictures, sorry, because I didn't know if they would be ok with me taking pics, so I didn't out of respect for them. Dr. Noland is planning on going around to individual high schools to speak to potential students and for recruiting (non-athletic, just general student recruiting). They really are trying to improve ETSU from top to bottom so I think we are in very good hands! Go Bucs!

RE: ETSU Rebranding
This is similar to the mountains academic logo, except the new one has ETSU in blue with the line underneath being blue and a blue one across the top. The mountains are outlined in blue with a gold accent.

Wait wait wait...what is this about the Pioneer league? Are you saying ETSU will play football in 2014 in the Pioneer league or 2015?

The way I understood it is that they will be playing in the Pioneer League next season, then the SoCon in 2015 for football. I also heard that they would be playing some at Science Hill. They are already out recruiting players as we speak. Basically, I think they are doing what Mercer is doing...Mercer is in the Pioneer League their first year.

RE: ETSU Rebranding
I thought the original plan was to have ETSU play a warmup year in 2015 with the first SoCon year in 2016. It would make sense to play 2015 in the Pioneer league...

I could have misunderstood them, but I'm pretty sure they said starting next year they would be in the Pioneer League with the players all red shirting and having 5 years of eligibility. That means they'd have 4 years starting in 2015. They said the breaking of the ground on the stadium will likely be next year with the goal of having it finished by 2015.

RE: ETSU Rebranding
They could have meant 2015 and not next year, so don't take my word on it. They were also talking about the stadium at the same time, so it is possible the date was misquoted. I do know that the 5 years of eligibility is a fact though. Either way, I do think the warmup season will be in the Pioneer League. These articles seem to say 2015 so they probably meant 2015:

ETSU Rebranding
Football can never be played in the soccer stadium. That was part it the agreement from the families that funded it.

They will be playing at Science Hill if the stadium isn't ready. They also mentioned basketball maybe playing a few games at the Memorial Center.

RE: ETSU Rebranding
I have not heard anything regarding the Pioneer League, so that's news to me, but I think it's good. The only issue with the one season in the Pioneer is travel. U. of San Diego is in that league along with Drake (Des Moines, IA). So there will be some complaining about travel costs. However, the good thing is Davidson, Mercer, Morehead State, & Campbell are all pretty close, and Jacksonville is a destination in the ASun. Maybe we can get lucky & San Diego (at least) can play us here. Regardless, I really like that - it will be provide some good interesting competition right out of the gate.

RE: ETSU Rebranding
It obviously makes sense to play the Pioneer League teams during the first year; if they do allow us to join for a year then I would expect us to be competitive since we would have two recruiting classes in house.

Is there any more news about playing some type of club football next Fall? 2015 is going to seem like an eternity!

I've heard they are considering playing some games as a club team next year, but a final decision on that hasn't been made.

I'd be shocked if the Pioneer accepts a team for one year, especially one that has scholarship players. I do think they'll play 4-5 of them though.

RE: ETSU Rebranding
The Pioneer League doesn't make sense. If they let ETSU in for a year, ETSU can't have scholarship players. Also, if they play a year in the Pioneer League that counts as a year of eligibility. They can't play one year in the Pioneer League and four years in the SoCon. You get four years of eligibility in a five year span. If they recruit a class who doesn't play for one year, just practices, they would automatically all be redshirts and have four years left. That's what most of the schools have done that have started new programs.

Then what is Mercer doing there for this year? Isn't Mercer joining the SoCon in football, or did I miss something?

Mercer and VMI will play a full SoCon football schedule in 2014. ETSU will begin SoCon play in 2016. The league will then be back to nine football schools. Perhaps the Pioneer did not know Mercer would go scholarship football in 2014, and again, maybe they did. I think ETSU should be independent in 2015 and schedule some nearby Pioneer schools along with other regional opponents. Club ball in 2014? Don't know enough about it to comment. But, in 2016 the athletic department will have to be real careful with that Sept 10 weekend.

If they pay attention then it should be a road game. That is if they can't get Bruton to make it a double header of some sort.

Mercer joined the PFL before the scholarship football decision was made. With ETSU announcing scholarship out of the gate, there is no way PFL would admit them for that reason...and especially the fact that they would only be there 1 year. It would be no benefit to ETSU to do a year of non-scholarship and then convert. Mercer is doing it this way out of necessity. PFL was announced in 2011, with SoCon announced earlier this year.
