Discovery Park of America
Interesting...

From the CA: Small town to open huge Discovery Park of America on Nov. 1

Quote:UNION CITY, Tenn. — The improbable happened in this small town Tuesday when Robert Kirkland opened his $80 million “education and entertainment” center for a preview by 300 beaming VIPs.

That’s how the successful businessman with the huge checkbook prefers to describe Discovery Park of America.

“It’s not a museum,” the 75-year-old told reporters, adding that museums are “stuffy.’’

There’s nothing stale about this 50-acre site that opens Nov. 1.

I have watched the progress of that site for quite some time. My parents were from West Kentucky, and I was born there. When I make my semi annual visits, I take the by pass that runs right by that place. For a long time, we were intrigued as to what it was going to be. I hope that it helps the region.

It's good to see something brewing after the goodyear plant closed and was bought by a another company.

You could pick up some pretty nice homes and cars in that area for cheap shortly after.

Yes you could tiger2000, I think it's called Titan Tire now, but the times I've been by there of late, not many cars in the parking lot.

Several members of my family went to Murray State. Not much up there for me now, other than visits to cemeteries, and the occasional wedding or family reunion.

Saw that... its great to see progress in the extended region around Memphis. Enhances the interconnectivity and overall image of the region.

Yeah, growing up my sister and I spent a couple of weeks in Murray every summer at my grandparents. Our aunt, uncle and cousins lived next door.

Those were great times.

Both grandparents have passed away (GM in 2003). Her funeral was the last time I was up there.

I've never been to City Museum in St. Louis, but this seems like it's kind of along those lines, only more of a scientific/geological angle.....is that the case?

I have several friends and family members that have been to early events there. From what I understand there's a little mix of science, art, and history. It'll be good for the area
