Cameron Skaff
@cameronskaff
James Madison University commit class of 2018

Don't know much about him, but saw this through Edmond's twitter page. Appears to be a RB, but at 6-4, 230 will certainly be playing somewhere else for us. From Battlefield HS in Haymarket. Anyone know anything about him?

Battlefield has a solid football program and good coaching, so young man will be a good get. He will contribute for JMU.

Could be a solid TE prospect ... seems like he's got fair hands and has a 31 in vertical. Not a speedster tho, but fair speed ... need to work on quicker feet and to get his head and shoulders down in a block. He's still growing and could fit into a lineman position also.

Very upright/stiff blocker and looks very slow. Agree that he's a tight end and could end up on the OL.

That's what I was thinking as well. From the video he looks like he was used as a blocker/fullback type as well as some TE type plays. Being big is also a plus.

His lack of speed and quickness is what jumps out to me. Most of the footage I see from high schools back home looks so slow compared to Texas high school football. It's like watching in 3/4 speed. But if the coaches have a move to the offensive or defensive line in mind, maybe he'll be fine.

With his size and speed (4.75), he projects as a lineman.

I know Cameron's father, Dave. Dave is a vice-president with M&T Bank and is an upper management person over my wife. Dave played basketball at George Mason from 1977-87 and scored almost 1,400 pts in his career averaging 20.1 his senior year. I told him I knew he was a closet Duke, just took his son to bring it out of him.

No doubt. Always one of the top programs in Northern VA.

Also, Melvin Holland Jr from Briar Woods was on an unofficial visit this weekend. Would be a very good get for JMU

That's a mighty long career. That would have made him older than old man George Evans.04-cheers

RE: Football Commit - Cameron Skaff
Actually hadn't watched the video myself until now. Based on it, I'd bet he starts off at TE as well. If for some reason, he continues to fill out considerably, then maybe he becomes a pretty athletic lineman, but if his numbers are accurate, then 6-4, 230 and 4.75 40 as a HS senior are pretty darn good for an incoming TE. Still has to be able to play football, but I'd be OK with that as a starting point. Also says/shows him as a long snapper which is always useful.

You give me 11 seasons I could probably score 1400 points also. Mason has always been a bunch of cheaters... 03-wink

Yes,

Battlefield's assistant head coach was my high-school coach (gulp) 30+ years ago. Still are friends and he was at my wedding 21 years ago.

Battlefield is struggling a bit this year partially due to a new High School - Patriot - taking a lot of their players. Patriot, (who my son now got switched to) is kicking butt this year. Patriot also has a WR that ODU and JMU are going after...

Don't most Mason students take ten years to graduate?
