That came to my mind, as well. Not to mention - did we lose out on having to play our first game on BTN over a potential ESPN draw? And, how much will pre-planned games on ESPN2/U for the remainder of the season net us or does most of it go into a conference 'pool' because of the full ESPN/conference agreement?

San Diego State pulling out an upset would be provide a huge boost for us as it will also boost EIU.

Why would ESPN2 want to show a game vs SDSU, they are horrendous, but I guess its one of the better opponents Fresno has left. That is pretty sad.

To put this in perspective NIU is getting around $100k to have our last 2 home games on a weeknight on ESPN2. Really hope the MAC can improve the contract as its rumored.

They are 3 - 3 right now and won a share of the MWC title last year so could have a shot.

It is pretty apparent in my opinion why ESPN wants them on. Fresno is leading pack as the final BCS buster and they want to keep the hype train rolling. We have pretty much hit a wall as they continue to move up in the polls and it creates additional buzz for their program with the voters. Plus ESPN already owns our stretch run so essentially they have now locked down the only two non-AQ teams with any shot of running the table

With Fox Sports 1, NBC Sports, CBS Sports etc, can't believe we couldn't jump ship and provide games to those networks. They have a stranglehold on the BCS teams. Think I saw an Ivy league game on the schedule last week

I don't see the MAC leaving ESPN any time soon. With the recent announcements of new bowl games for the league, they now own 4 out of 5 MAC bowls as the too be announced bowls are presumably ESPN owned as well. The MAC office is in deep with ESPN and I don't see that changing despite the chance of more money.

The $500k comes from the MWC TV contract, which awards bonuses to schools that play on national TV. It's not a direct bonus from ESPN.

I read an article about this. The MWC is providing bonuses to schools that play on ESPN/2 and i think smaller bonuses for ESPNU.

I think this was largely put in place because they wanted to bring Boise State back and Boise plays a lot of ESPN/2 games and wants more TV revenue.

Way to capitalize on your brethren's accomplishments. I wish a team like EMU would threaten to leave so the MAC would put a deal like this in place that we could capitalize on. Rimshot

Unlikely, I have watched both SDSU and Fresno play this year and SDSU is not very good this year. Fresno on the other hand has a damn good team from what I have seen.

SDSU might be getting better as the year goes on but they still aren't worth much. I watched the last 1.5 qtrs of their game against Air Force and Air Force did nothing on offense (similar to watching us this past weekend) and SDSU finally mounted a comeback.

The only way Fresno can be tested is if they play a physical team. I think Wyoming could present some matchups issues on both lines of scrimmage for them. The rest of the MWC is just a bunch of finess crappage.

Yup, that's exactly why it was put in place.
