I think it's about time this guy gets his own thread.

25 receptions, 445 yards, 5 TD through six games this year - good for 74 yards/game. JMU doesn't track drops, but from what I've seen, is one of the most sure-handed receivers in recent memory.

When's the last time we had a standout wide receiver? At what point does he command more attention/double coverage from the defense? One can only assume that will open up the field that much more for other receivers and the running game.

Bottom line, kid's a beast.

RE: Daniel Brown
agreed. best WR I've seen at JMU in awhile.

If only we could have played 1 more game and red-shirted him last year and have him for 2 more years.

T.V. commentators said he had the biggest hands he had ever seen. He is a human vacuum machine. One of the best we have ever had, no doubt.

No, Brandon Ravenel did. Announcers incorrectly said DB did.

I said at the beginning of the season there were 4 people JMU couldn't afford to have go down to injury. Birdsong and DQ on offense, and Robertson and Marlowe on defense. Make that 5 with Brown, and I would put him behind Birdsong and ahead of DQ at this point in order of importance.

RE: Daniel Brown
Love that kid. He's from close to where my wife's from and one of her friends helped coach him in HS (just learned this a few weeks ago). Fast, tall, great hands...really a great receiver. The commentators on Saturday were talking about how he didn't have any offers from anywhere and he was a walk-on at JMU. Richmond, Christopher Newport and Old Dominion universities also recruited Brown...but none of them offered. He was a high school QB, DB, and kick returner...along with playing basketball and baseball. Such an athlete. "He chose the Purple and Gold because he believed the college, which has 18,000 students, has more to offer in the way of sports and academics."

Here's the rest of a good article from his hometown newspaper: http://www.tidewaternews.com/2010/04/02/...jmu-bound/

Man, you guys give me a mini heart attack when I see a subject with just a player's name. I immediately think, 'Oh God, what did he do?' or 'Oh God, what did he break?'

He can put a check box in most of the boxes that NFL scouts look for: tall, can jump, good build, good hands. I don't know about his speed but he looks quick out there. If he can throw down a decent 40 time I gotta believe he'll get some looks and may intrigue a few teams.

Plus he's doing all of this after suffering a major knee injury just last year. The saying goes is that it really takes two years to fully heal and be back at 100%.

I think he has the tools for it. Would be nice to be able to draft a Duke in fantasy football one day.

I actually had a nice chat with him before one of the games last year after he got hurt. Not to go too into my conversation with him, but that quote is not at all accurate to why he ended up at JMU based on what he told me. It's a good news article quote, though.

Brian

That would be 2008.
Rock McCarter had 6 and Mike Caussin had 5 from the TE position.

Uhh...why on earth would you bother saying this and leaving it there?

Not to go too into detail, but something in your home MAY KILL YOU. No further details at 11.

Daniel does not hide the fact that he wanted to go to VT. His brother is a tech grad and tells funny stories about taking Daniel to parties there after 21-16. UR is the only school that offered; JMU invited as a preferred walkon. He was in the 4.5 (I think 4.55) range in his freshman year in the 40 and burning everyone in spring practice. Scholarship $ soon followed. Good family: hard-working, honest, polite folks. Daniel is the same way.

OKAY, now let's kill this thread, he needs to be our own little secret. No need to broadcast this information for the world to see. Partly serious, partly kidding.
