They stuffed the run and played closed in the secondary. Put the pressure on Lynch. This was another character maker for JL, he found a way to give us enough to win.

I didn't see a really crappy team in Akron, I saw a team with alot of good MAC caliber players that is a play maker away from winning seasons. Give some props to them.

But, give more props to our D. Again they persevered.

after getting beat 48-0 by Ohio last week, the Zips could have quit but instead they came in and competed hard. when a team is building and losing, a coach looks for these subtle signs. Kudos to the Zips, hope they win a few

Agreed. I re-watched the game yesterday and was impressed with Akron. They played a really tough, physical game and made a few great plays along the way. Their receiver made a great catch at the north end 1 yard line while getting mugged by two of our DBs, and their QB made a terrific throw on the run at the south end, putting the ball where only his receiver could catch it even though Marlon Moore was standing right in front of him. Akron is not that far away. They will be much improved next year.

RE: Akron Game Thoughts
Lynch looked a lot better when he ran the ball. Last two games he was usually slow getting up from hits and looked like he was in a lot of pain. Didn't see that Saturday. Final score is probably not as close if Eakes doesn't hold in the 4th qtr when we gained about 17 yards for a first down but instead had 1st and 20 then punted.

How about the irony of Denise Dove being elected into the NIU Hall of Fame when her husband is Akron's ex-coach.

RE: Akron Game Thoughts
Look at it this way. Each and every team we play is pulling out all guns in trying to beat the Huskies. It would be a feather in their caps to say they took down an undefeated team, back-to-back MAC champion, and Orange Bowl team. We are getting each team's very best. When we don't come in with our A game, what happens is what we saw on Saturday. Chances are we may not blow out anyone - even EMU (well, okay, maybe WMU). Aside from this, we often seem to play down to our opposition. This is dangerous, in that a loss could come easily. We need to have the fight and chip on the shoulder EVERY game.

What is scary is Akron averaged 3.1 per carry, the qb had a 25 qb rating, they had a lot more penalty yards and we won the TO battle 1-0. All those #'s point to a blowout for us. We need to take more time off the clock with our offense.

No, What it means is NIU has to get in the endzone rather than settle for FG attempts. 4 FG attempts, 2 made. 6 pts score with potential of 28.

True. Being 1-15 on 3rd downs is an incredible stat, especially for our offense.

Incredible stat??--It demonstrates that a good opposing qb(which the Akron kid was not) could easily beat NIU.

Do you mean if we decide to go 1-15 on third down again? Otherwise, I don't see the connection between our third down conversions and the opposing QB.

Yep defense played great, just need to get a first down here and there. Never thought the offense could play that badly, hopefully its an anomaly, although with KHJ out for the year, optimism of getting back on track may not be as high.

Having surgery tomorrow...how long he is out is an assumption.

Damn, just saw his tweet. That's killer. He was quietly having a real solid year.

Ducee lined up in the backfield a handful of times on Saturday. You have to think that will continue, if not increase. Been mostly a decoy so far.

that is scary. Certainly Cam and Lynch can easily carry the load...but if one of those goes down for even 1-2 quarters in a game, we're in huge trouble.

We knew that about Lynch since the Army game last year.

I didn't even notice him out there to be honest. Good to hear he might be getting some carries. With KHJ out now for a good amount of time, I wouldn't be surprised if Akeem does come back if he is 100%.

I noticed him out there probably 3-5 times. He wasn't out there a lot, but he was out there. Most of the time he was out there they would fake something to him and then throw it to Tommy. IIRC, they ran a reverse to Tommy and Ducee was the one who handed it to him.

Best idea is to just move Ducee to RB permenantly now and get it over with. We need to have a thunder and lightning combo with someone and Stingily. Give him a ton of reps in practice, I just hope he is ready but he was a 3* coming out.
