Negotiations stall on Capitol Hill; House leaves, Collins' plan in serious doubt

Negotiations to fully reopen the federal government and increase the debt limit faltered Saturday in the Senate and House – with a proposal by a moderate Senate Republican being rejected, hence postponing any hopes of breakthrough until at least Tuesday-- two weeks after the partial shutdown started.

The plan by Maine GOP Sen. Susan Collins to fund the government for six months and increase the federal debt limit through January was rejected by leaders of the Democrat-led Senate, who purportedly though they were not getting enough in exchange.

The upper chamber also failed the get the necessary 60 vote on a bill to increase the debt through 2014 that was “clean” of Republican demands to spending cuts or changes to ObamaCare.

The GOP should put their last best offer on the table and fly home.

The democrats just keep destroying themselves. It will take a while for all the polling to catch up to the public mood, but the Democrats are going to take a beating in the mid term elections.

The problem the republicans have is that it's hard to negotiate with dishonest and unscrupulous people. And those adjectives fit Obama, Reid, and Pelosi perfectly.

Lets see what the Senate can come up with. There needs to be a clean CR and DC increase. The government needs to be reopened and then, only then should there be negotiations. The GOP also needs to get together and decide what it is exactly that they want. This was all about the ACA, then it wasn't. Is it about deficits, is it about specific programs?

Why won't Reid submit a budget? He won't do that but he'll blame the GOP for not submitting a CR.

Obama's budget didn't even muster one single dimocratic vote 3 years in a row, or maybe 4 years in a row. They never intended to pass a budget, so let them choke on the CR bullsh!t. They own it.

Absolutely. The left is using smoke and mirrors and the lapdog media is following the script they've been given.

I don't want my government to continue to spend almost a trillion dollars more than it takes in with no negotiations. F'em - leave the government closed.

How do you negotiate after you've given in on everything?
