the crowd looks so poor on TV. I hope the fans are filing in fast. Geez. Of course, I am not there and not happy about- had to officiate a wedding today, but kept it short and sweet and cut out of the reception early. I am just disappointed that the stands look so empty.

Why do people keep comparing how our fans are now to our ability to go FBS? It doesn't make sense.

I know I'd be at the game today if we were FBS this year. Instead, I have a perfectly fine view from my living room. I imagine quite a few people feel the same way.

If FBS is the reason you don't show up to a big game against our biggest rival, please don't ever come.

As for the game, it did fill in some, but even those there with the exception of the 408/108 sections hardly had one fan that even stood up at all. It was a sorry display. Fun game though.

You know well that it's literally a fair weather crowd. People come out when it's sunny and they can tailgate. Most don't care about football or UR at all. We really need to go FBS to recharge the batteries on the program because people obviously aren't into it anymore. NBC went out of their way to not show the upper deck today. I'm not saying I'm not interested, but people just aren't interested in watching JMU play UR anymore. There are sections with no people in them. I guess that's not visible from the club section but the entirely empty student section is.

Re: lethargy?
FBS isnt the problem...our fans are the problem. Waaa its too cold. Waaa its too wet. Waaa the opponent isnt good enough. Newsflash folks.. we wont be facing Michigans or VTs at home for a looong time. It'll be more like Bowling Greens and Middle Tennessees of the world.
Heres the truth. We are a fair weather fan base that would rather complain about people not showing and those same people justify their not being there as if their reason makes is acceptable. Time to own up or shut up. Sick and tired of the excuses. Support your F'ing Dukes. Period. Otherwise you are part of the problem and not part of the solution.

I sit in 405 and the upper deck in the middle seemed full. Sectiin 405 and 406 were probably the loudest. Cannot remember who the poster is, but he was electric in his hate for Richmond, was nice.

Just bc we wouldn't be playing top quality FBS opponents in BFS for a long time doesn't mean that it isn't a factor. I'm a huge JMU sports fan, and I would have never considered Richmond to be our MAIN rival.

Relative to FCS teams, a half empty BFS is still better than almost any other team. There's a reason why minor league baseball stadiums are 1/4th the size of their major league counterpart---minor league fans go for a fun, inexpensive family day out, with a lot of events beyond the primary game. Most of those fans could care less about wins and losses. Major league teams don't need the sideshows.

We're a minor league team trying to grow up. We're half way there-- just need to make the jump and market the hell out of the move.

Who wouldn't want to stay until the end of a JMU game? Look at today. Guaranteed to make you sweat...outscored 22-10 in the fourth. But the ticks are a good offensive team and a win is a win02-13-banana

As long as that lower bowl is sold we have to just deal with the fact that many don't show up.

I look at teams like Penn State who has every right to not show up for gamea and yet they show up in mass and they stay the whole game.

As far as the top level goes I don't think JMU can fill that to 100% w/o a parents wknd or something. Fill .... Not sell.

Still way better than most.

Beaver stadium wasn't built in a day....I don't think we can or should compare bridgeforth and JMU to Beaver or the Big House or the Shoe. Those programs all have close to 50,000 students and close to a century of football tradition they have built upon. From where JMU started, as a women's school, to just over 5,000 students enrolled when football even started in the 70's, to where we are now...our stadium and our fan base is ahead of "schedule".

we've already established that our fans are incredibly fairweather. It was nothing more than drizzle all day and we still boo hoo and stay home.
However, I was still surprised at the turnout considering that it had rained all day. There was a decent number of fans for a rain game.

I think our apathy towards Richmond, odu, William and Mary just in the last two seasons actually shows the opposite of what the anti-fbs crowd argues.
They say that our fans care about the regional Fcs rivals instate. If so, why do we not draw well against them? I view it as Fcs apathy and annoyance at the lack of direction since the bridgeforth expansion announcement back in 2008.

RE: lethargy?
The problem with the students now is that none of them have witnessed exciting, winning football. Just boring, 4 or 5 loss teams and 2 playoff games, total. And none at home.

Prior to that, you had a title, a bunch of playoff games and landers, McGee, et al.

What have today's seniors experienced to "bond" to the football part of the game day experience?

Answer: Nothing.

Didn't the year before last we had a chance to get the first playoff game against Eastern Kentucky at home and show off our new stadium and we were too cheap to bid for it? Would have been a great way to get students/community excited.
