RE: NTR... but worth the click
That really is a funny thread. Thanks.
A true story--last week I bought a brisket and some charcoal at Walmart and put it on my debit card. Right after that, I got banner ads--not on the cusa forum--for smokers sold by Walmart. I hadn't googled anything related to bbq, so I got to thinking. I pay my ISP bill online with the same debit card, so just wondering if there is a deal with the internet provider, my debit card, and various retailers?
Could be just coincidence, but you never know. And with all the news revelations about our absolute lack of privacy, nothing would surprise me.
Again, thanks--a funny thread right up there with the old cusa carrot thread and the drunk-UCF-fan-in-Memphis thread from years ago.

It's not a coincidence. There are data mining companies with links to just about every retailer to provide purchase history.

those are called spiders. Everything I look up on line shows up here in this forum as a banner; cars, golf clubs, clothes, etc.

Another reason to pay with cash, which I usually do with locally-owned businesses to save them the bank skim.

Actually amigo, most folks don't get that. Then again most people don't understand economics like Milton Friedman.

Hmm, a lot of times your internet history is used to present relevant banner ads. So what exactly have you been googling lately?????

Escaping data mining and thus personalized advertising is a fruitless pursuit. It's the world we live in.
