Question for Tulane posters....
I watched some of the Wave/Tech game on tv. Just curious if Montana is still playing qb and if so, how he is progressing?

Montana is still the QB and is progressing just fine. The passing game has not been as productive as we would have liked over the past 2 games but I think that can be corrected. He has thrown for 10 TD's and over 1100 yards so far this year. The one thing he can do is run with the football when he has to. He can scramble for 4 or 5 or 12 yards to get a first down. He is very good at "managing" the game for the Wave. He and the defense are big reasons we are 4-2 on the season.

Thanks. He looked like he had a lot of promise when I watched him. He sure has the gene pool. A mobile qb. Man, that must feel good.

RE: Question for Tulane posters....
Our offense is a WIP. We play it really conservative. Sometimes its circumstance (like last week - had a lead and just tried to hang on), other times we're successful just running the ball, but we definitely aren't polished on O.

Then you have a solid head coach. He is winning by maximizing the talent on hand. Well done.

He has us playing good defense, and most of his recruiting and personnel moves have been on D (and OL -very little WR or RBs), and we haven't done any of that in a decade. We'll see how this Saints offense works out for us.

He has no OLine and is still alive. I'd say hes doing pretty well.

We would all like to see a better developed passing game but can't really argue with 4-2 at this point in the season.

RE: Question for Tulane posters....
As y'all have figured out, I am big fans of both Fuente at Memphis and Johnson at Tulane. I think that Johnson has the tougher job but that if given time, he'll turn you into a good program.
I'm thinking that he might need 5-7 years to get y'all to a consistent level of wins-per-year and conference title contention.
Q: Is there any regret about firing Scelfo?

No.
Scelfo kept a steady hand through the "Athletic Review" episode of 2003, and through the first 15 months of the Katrina crisis. Those were problems that he had nothing to do with, and would have crippled just about any Head Coaching regime, but he handled them (IMHO) with strength, grace and a positive attitude. I will always be grateful to him for that. And he did give us a few solid wins in football, too. But not nearly enough. To my dying day, I will always be convinced that 2005 was shaping up to be a major year for Tulane (8-3 was my guess), and then the storm hit on August 29, and Tulane's campus was evacuated within a few hours of that. Nothing has been the same for us, ever since.
I go back and forth on whether Rodriguez would have been the right hire. It seems obvious that he would've left after 2 years, anyway (he took the WVU job after the 2000 season). And then who knows what would've happened from that point. Scelfo was 10-13 after 2 years, and I admit Rodriguez probably would've done better than that. Although you look at the way he bombed at Michigan and you can't be 100% sure that he would've been.

Goodness no.
Lot of regret in hiring Toledo though.
