670 The Score & Laurence Holmes....
Filling in for Danny Mac today, apologized to the NIU fanbase for NBC5 being up against it during the sports broadcast Saturday Night and them having to cut NIU's video out of the sports broadcast update....
Laurence can be annoying at times but overall I like his shows and he's shown some love to NIU over the past year...hoping to see Lynch get on the show a time or too....
BTW, Boers and Bernstein are broadcasting live all day Friday from Fatty's and I'm sure they will have Coach Carey on as they usually do...Terry is always great with the coaches....

Laurence Holmes shows more than "some love" to NIU. He's our biggest booster on The Score. Not only that, he does his homework and knows what he's talking about when it comes to NIU football.

RE: Laurence Holmes....
Holmes has been by far our biggest supporter on the Score, basically our only real supporter.
It's odd that Bernstein seems to still look down on college football but here they are doing remotes in DeKalb LOL. I might be out in DeKalb Friday anyway so I might have to stop in if they're interviewing Carey.

He had Harnish on all the time. He gives NIU a lot of love. Too bad Lynch is not a good interview, he might be on more? How is Stingliy with the press? Being that he is also a local kid, he might be a good representative(except for the suspended license thing)

Going to miss Holmes' support next year. Man, I hope we hook up with a decent radio station/network.

Maybe we can hookup with another CBS affiliate so the SCORE can still support us.

Agreed, but he has no problem with his show being funded in large part by NU Wildcat football advertising $'s. Can you say disingenuous?

Do you know for certain they pay all the bills? I'm sure they advertise quite a bit in his spot. However, it isn't a car dealership he is paid to endorse or something along that nature.
His job is to be opinionated and speak on sports topics-NIU and NU both happen to be a part of that topic. I don't listen to him so I couldn't say he runs down the Wildcats and then only speaks highly of NIU.
Considering the nature of the job calls for unbiased opinion and a splash of being brash, I hardly qualify talking about NIU as disingenuous.

Pretty sure he was talking about Bernstein being disingenuous, not Holmes.

He continually vocalizes his disdain for College football. He once went as far as to say that he ...would not be impacted negatively one bit should college football cease to exist.. I just feel if that is your viewpoint, fine, but why then would you agree to have your program sponsored by a local college football program?

He doesn't have anything to say about the advertisers on the show. Unless it's something that he has a moral objection to, and he's going to draw a line in the sand, it doesn't matter at all who sponsors the show.

I dont listen often but when I have heard Boers and Bernstein talk college football their disdain seems to me to be with college football fans not college football itself.
To their point, College football fans tend to be much more passionate towards their teams then NFL fans..to a point where many times good judgement is all but lost. Certainly his happens in pro sports but I dont think it is close to the degree it happens with college football.

Probably because college football fans in many cases actually have some connection to the college, as in, they went to school there. Not all the time obviously. But I have not seen college football fans being more passionate than NFL fans. The only difference is that a lot of college football fans are students, who are younger and more likely to drink and do something stupid.
I don't listen much either but it sounds like he doesn't think people should follow college football after they're no longer in college.

The guy is well spoke, insightful, entertaining and witty. The disconnect for me comes from his passionate stance on some issues, and his inconsistency when it comes to follow through. It seems strange to me to ridicule those who support the sport, and at the same time be the convincinsing spokesperson for an institution (NU football program) that is among the ranks of those you just ridiculed. If he were to be passionately vocal about his disdain for lets say pornography, and at the same time he was the spokeperson for Heavenly Bodies, would that not be a mixed message? The other Bernstein irony is when he gets on his soap box on concussions in sports, than belittles the efforts on the part of the NFL to make the sport safer. I guess the fact that we are discussing this gives credibility that his agenda is working.

Here, let me get that chip off your shoulder for ya.....
I heard him this AM and he went out of his way as mentioned above and repeated the Huskies beating 2 BIG teams "on the road".
Yes, if we were 1-4 he wouldn't be talking about us at all, but he wouldn't be bashing us.
