I'll agree to that, though I present this situation:
In the span of 4 seconds, a potential game changing penalty occurs, a potential fumble occurs, and a potential touchdown occurs.
In that 4 seconds, where the pressure is on the nearest ref (who didn't have a clear view of the hit) to make all 3 calls, instantly, what is the most likely thing to happen?

Depends on how much of a hurry he's in to get home.

I may be a man on an island on this, but I'm tired of hearing about officiating from both sides. What happened.....happened. Nothing is going to change the results.
All of this is detracting from a pretty good football game from a spectator's standpoint and a really good effort by the team that I root for.
It's time to move on to the next game and quit complaining or defending about what happened yesterday, be it PI calls, helmet/helmet, etc.

Please let Houston get here so we can stop talking about this hit. We got screwed and UCF lucky. It is over and just hope our boys use it as motivation to beat them at their house next year.

Hes our true freshman backup RB from NY too. IMO we should put him at LB and let him keep lighting suckas up.
It was an incredible hit. No complaint from me.
If i were a Memphis defender, i would find a way to make Stanback be a part of another play like that next year. Nothing illegal, mind you. :)

This has always been the case with "targeting" since the rule was introduced in 2008. The "defenseless" category is only one subset of what can be called targeting. Leading with the crown of the helmet into the helmet of another player is the other. But here's why it doesn't apply to this play:
-The ref didn't throw the flag
-Stanback did not leave his feet
-Stanback was not initially aiming for the runner's head
-Warford lowered his head
-Stanback also was attempting to wrap up the defender and also hit with his shoulder
It was a big hit no doubt, but it was not targeting.

Let him play in all three areas: back up running back, linebacker, and gunner!
