Seeking an answer to NIU Huskie trivia:

Huskies have been NIUs mascot since he 1940s but when did the first costumed dog mascot known as Victor E Huskie come into existence at events ?

Not looking for when the characterized versions in logo drawings were first printed with the upright boxer huskie....

Sometime during my undergraduate years there was a contest to name the NIU mascot and the winner was "Victor E. Huskie". The mascot itself might have predated that (I do not remember) however I have a clear memory of the contest that resulted in the name. That would have been sometime between 1971 and 1975 and I think that it occurred right in the middle of that time period.

VEH has always been.

Fairly certain VEH was non existent at games on Glidden Field during my undergrad yrs 62-66.

Where is Korcek when I need a definitive answer to my query?

BTW: I am anxious to tour this Saturday the refurbished Gilbert Hall from my freshman year. I don't think it had indoor plumbing back then either.

Actually he was sent to Nagasaki and Hiroshima.

I'd like to officially apologize to anybody affected by the nuclear blasts of August 6th and 9th of 1945. I did not mean to make light of your suffering, I merely wanted to emphasize the powers of one Victor E. Huskie.
