realler than real power rankings
1. ragin cajuns: nobody close. best tailgating. great town. best name for a qb. best nickname for a coach...hud....just say it and you'll see what i mean. best male dancer on a dance team. best motto...'dont drop the rope' in all honesty when i was in the usmc on the uss guadalcanal i could swear the motto was 'dont drop the soap' but i must have mis-heard soap for rope.

2. red woofs: 2 time defending champs. only team in sunbelt with x-men. they need to get seminole indian of the injured reserve to reach full potential.

3. troy: they beat south al. like jesus turned water into wine they turned 15k fans into 23k fans. universe no longer mad at blakely. letting him win again.

4. south al: they beat western. have best home schedule and could move up.

5: western: nothing to see here.....move along.

6: texas state: beware of large o-linemen and spread offenses....welcome to the sunbelt.

7. big lots: that lottery ticket they lucked into at the circle-k down in texas 4 years ago....that money done gone....had to pay lot rent for the trailer.

8. ga state: need to try some voodoo. build 2 scarecrows that look like david eLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLson and bill curry. pose them sodomizing the ga dome and set them on fire. it's worth a shot.

Looks about right to me beedster. Only two teams without a confrenence loss ( State and UL) / Troy seems to be back and USA holds the breaker against WKU.

I am truly going to miss WKU sandbagging. They are the best in the sandbagging business.

This could have been posted anonomously and I would've known the author. Dahbeed, you will be missed over here on the SBC board, just for your verbiage and analogies. You will have to pop in occasionally just to spice up a mundane thread or two. 03-lmfao

Your rankings are spot on by the way, at the moment at least, but the SBC power rankings change as often as the "Red Woofs" change coaches.

Back to back baby!! Like I told a hog fan last night, if we continue to win a conference championship every year I don't even have to know the coaches name and it won't make me any less happy. Lol

franko....you always bring it real too amigo. one of my favorite western posters.

they are spot on......for this week.

if some western fraternity pulls a 'taken' on one of hud's family members (you are now picturing hud saying "i WILL find you and i WILL kill you") and he's distracted and we pull the upset off the realler than real power rankings could change.

they are a snapshot of this morning....that's all.

With the Sun Belt being more of a passing conference, I think we are going to suffer quite a bit this season. The Cajuns exposed our deficiencies in the secondary. Might look for us to drop a few spots.

Don't get me wrong, if we play to our ability, we can "hang" with any team... But man, our secondary is ROUGH.

RE: realler than real power rankings
1)Louisiana - Impressive win this past week and are finally starting to look like the team everyone expected preseason. Well balanced on offense and on defense, the back end in starting to match up with a decent front 7.
2)stAte - Still the 2 time defending champs, but on a 2 game losing streak, so this is a team that could plummet if the issues they've had the past 2 games continue. 2 Tuesdays from now will say a lot about who they are and whether their ranking is worthy.
3)WKU - Hardest teams to rank right now are 3-6, a lot of parity right here. WKU has the talent to win the conference, but the only consistent part of their team is their inconsistency. When they are on top of their game, they are the best team in the conference. When they are turning the ball over, they could lose to Ga State (well, maybe not that rough, but still not great). I have them here on highest potential of the middle 4.
4)Troy - Squeeked by against USA. Really hard to gauge this team. They are winning the close games they lost last year, but also are doing it kinda ugly.
5)USA - Team is exceeding expectations this year, and surprisingly has one of the better OOC wins against Tulane. I don't think they have the firepower to win the league, but they do have the team that can get bowl eligible and could beat any team on any given week.
6)Tx State - I think their flaw is that they are 1 dimensional and Jones is still to raw and to young to carry the team. Still, I definitely have them winning 6 games by beating atleast 3 of their next 4 opponents, so at one point, I think they will be 6-3. A step forward will be made, just gotta make some adjustments to overtake some of the teams just in front of them in this ranking.
7)ULM - Rough times in Monroe, Browning was the heart of that team, and without him there, the team looked flat and weak. If Berry were a better coach, I'd think they might be able to overcome this and be decent, but I've said for a while, I'm really not a fan of his, and I don't think he'll be out the door this year. I think Berry will hold his job until after next season regardless of this seasons outcome.
8)Ga State - Gotta grasp for something, but I got nothing right now. Team has a very long way to get out of the hole that was dug over the past few seasons. They are no less than 2 more years away from truly being competitive.

RE: realler than real power rankings
Berry got a 4 year extension last year and I do not see ULM being able to afford to buy out any part of his contract.

RE: realler than real power rankings
Amazing how much stAte can get better with a week off!

Our strength of schedule improved and I feel slightly less bad about our recent losses:

Memphis held UCF 270 total yards - and had allowed UCF only 10 points midway through the 4th.
Mizzou rolled up 51 @ Vandy.

Gus beat Hugh.
Troy held on, so to speak.

RE: realler than real power rankings
Other than Beed sandbagging pretty fair assessment.

I still don't know what I expect from A-State so I certainly don't have a handle on the league. Memphis basically had UCF beat and fumbled twice for TD's in NINE SECONDS to hand the game to UCF. After 300 minutes of football Mizzou has trailed for 23:53 with two-thirds of that to A-State. What's that mean? Heck if I know. We moved the ball against Auburn but couldn't find the end zone. Hugh Freeze had pretty much the same issue.

USA has the right schedule to win it.

I expect the champ to be no better than 6-1 and won't be a bit surprised if we have a pile-up for first place at 5-2.

The Cajuns are in good shape, the only thing on their resume that would concern me if I were a fan would be that the Akron game was so close.

ULM was co-favorite in pre-season but there was an * next to it that said * = if Kolton finishes the year healthy.

WKU other than losing at USA and the style points (specifically lack thereof) at Tennessee are the only surprises on their resume.

A-State stunk in week four, but week four last year blew a lead at home against Troy and week four the year before kicked a ton of field goals against UCA. Maybe its a week four thing, maybe the changes are catching up. I dunno.

USA. Other than the opener face plant, Jag fans have to be reasonably happy about the year.

Troy. Trojans face planted against Miss St but otherwise they look better.

Texas State. Still believe the Bobcats are going to spoil someone hopeful's shot at the title.

Georgia State. The participation ribbons are at the back of the room.
