Iowa State / Texas: The kid was three steps down the field before the whistle blew!
I'm sorry guys, but the officiating took another bizarre turn for the worst tonight in the Texas vs Iowa State game. I'm not talking about the interference calls most of which were deserved (poor technique), but I am talking about how the Texas line tackled, held, laid upon and snatched the jerseys of the Iowa State pass rush all night with only 1 holding call that I can remember. But even that didn't cost the Cyclones the game. But at the goal line the ball was stripped and the Iowa State defender was literally 3 steps down the field on the slow motion replay (and it was reviewed) before the whistle blew. It was clear. That didn't stop the Big 12 crew from awarding the ball to Texas at the 1 yard line in what would prove to be the game winning touchdown and extra point with .51 seconds left in the game.

If this was the only example of what is beginning to smell like fixes this year I wouldn't be suspect. But it is the third such game I've witnessed already. What did you think?

Why do you think Nebraska, Colorado, Texas A&M, and Missouri left the Big 12?

I wonder if the B12 will apologize to ISU. I know they won't change the outcome. But they deserve an apology for that one, and the ref that made the decision needs to be fired...

I think the kids forward progress was stopped and the whistle was just late.

If Iowa State scored a TD prior to that drive game would have been over.

Now you all know why Texas will NEVER leave the Big12. I have seen this type of officiating favor Texas happen over an over again.

This is nothing new nor a one game happening

I respectfully disagree. When no part of the kids body is down the usual procedure at the goal line is to wait for either the dog pile, or for what might be a step and a push toward the goal for the runner. He had only been slowed for less than a second when the ball squirted free.

If they called that kind of stop at the goal line uniformly I would agree with you. But there has been a fairly lengthy history of waiting for the surge or the pile up neither of which had occurred on this play at the time of the fumble.

Right after the game on one of the Texas sites, (where I had been reading about Dodds) one of their fans started a thread about "Did Mack pay the Refs?" On another thread the poster declared they were back and stable and that the coaching staff needed raises and extensions. Below was a picture of zebras. It's hard to stay mad at a fan base that is that honest about their own program. I got a gut laugh out of the zebras picture.

It doesn't matter if the whistle was late. Until the whistle blows, the play is live. It was a horrible screw up by the officials. But,not to be outdone, they blew it again on the next play. The runner lost the ball and ISU covered it. The fumble would not be called.

Earlier on the possession, the interference call on the sideline looked a whole lot more like OFFENSIVE interference, however it was called defensive interference.

Not starting a war but Dr. Khator and her fans would welcome getting hosed like that if it meant a big paycheck.

I don't hate Texas but I despise their ref treatment. To be fair, they only ran 1 University out of the Big 12 and that was aggy. Colorado wanted the PAC for 20+ years. Mizzou was lifting their skirt to anyone who would listen and Nebraska got tired of being beat by the 3 Texas public schools. aggy left because they could no longer compete with Texas or their LHN. Simple as that.

I'm not happy Texas won but this will surely fan the flames that Texas needs a better coach and conference.

On the hail mary in the first half a Texas olineman tackled an ISU defender. Clear fumble at the goal line
that was recovered by ISU. Same **** happened to Cincy @ Illinois. Thanks Big Ten refs.

Nonsense. Texas normally gets bad breaks. You are thinking of Michigan.

They said his forward motion was stopped. I've seen those not called fumbles before. But it easily could have been called one.

The pass interferences were all about as flagrant as you could get. There were about 3 or 4 more less flagrant they didn't call.

Paul Rhoads' epic rant after being robbed of the win by the refs:

http://www.cyclones.com/mediaPortal/play...id=3076185

"To make a play on the 1-yard line … clear to everybody, and have it taken away from them, that's hard to express!"

"I've got pretty good eyesight. The view I had of that gigantic screen in the end zone showed a player not down and our guy with the football."

"We're the least penalized team in the league. Sure seemed to be a lot of hankies on the field. I'm sure they made tremendous calls."

Actually they blew it also on the 2nd play because the runner fumbled, recovered it in the end zone and then pulled it back. So that should have been a TD. ISU never got their hands on the 2nd fumble.

I'm sure he was upset about the fumble call, but the penalties were all more than deserved.

I believe you are correct on that, but the Iowa St. player pulled it out of his arms rather than it "squirting free." And that is the type of play where they usually call forward progress, with the player being pushed back in one player's arms while another grabs at the ball. I was hoping they were considering it forward progress. I thought it would be reversed because his knee wasn't down.
