Last game of the year for #2 ranked, one-loss West Virginia at home against Pittsburgh. With a win, they were most likely in the BCS championship game. The refs did everything in their power to try and help WVU, calling phantom penalties on Pitt and whenever possible, ignoring WVU infractions. In the end, Pitt still won the game, but to everyone, it was blatently obvious there were some "suggestions" given to the refs by the conference office. Things like that are very difficult to prove so I don't think anything was done, but I'm sure it happens many times, including in the MACC last year. Another reason why I think officials should be determined at an NCAA level instead of by conference.

Well, if you say it here on a message board, it must be true. 01-wingedeagle

Show one shred of credible evidence that even remotely validates your theory. You can't.

Referee conspiracy theories are funny.

Yeah...um, this isn't a court of law, but rather a message board so most of the stuff here will be opinions. Also, if you had actually comprehended what you read, I said things like that are difficult to prove, unless someone gets a recording of a conversation, or intercepts a written memo, but many people will say that it happens from time to time. Does it happen every game, not a chance, but with millions of dollars on the line, of course the people involved will have a vested interest in the outcome. You must also believe that defenders (both NFL and college) NEVER go down and fake an injury to stop the clock and give the D a breather. Someone faking an injury is extremely difficult to prove, yet again many people will tell you it happens on occasion.
